when to stop meds for teething?
« on: November 12, 2013, 21:14:58 pm »
Hellooo

Mods feel free to move if in wrong place...

Dd is 23mo next week and only just teething canines - all four together ::) ::) I've been giving meds for nap and BT for what seems like agggges! However, all four have started coming through and she is sleeping better again.

So question is when do teeth stop hurting them and when can I stop giving meds? I don't want her to be in pain....

Tia!!

I've generally found teeth stop bothering mine once the whole width of the tooth is through,  if that helps.  Canines get wider as they come up though,  don't they?  I would say if the main peak is through she'd probably be ok, but that's only going by my two.  How does she seem? Is she still showing signs of teething?  If not, you could always try halving the dose you give her and see if she's ok with that,  then stop if she's ok?

I would just not give them one night and see...that is the only way you will be able to know if she is in pain. If she needs them in the night then you can always give them.

I tend to do as Becky suggested and after a couple if days of giving meds, just try without.  It's really the only way to tell.  If she wakes clearly in pain you can always give them later, it's not the end of the world :)

Aye that's a fair point! Guess I'll try tonight. I just worry for nap time cos if she short naps she can spiral into ot really quickly :-/ but I can't medicate till all 20 are out! Lol

I'd go for it at BT then - more time to recover if it all goes pear-shaped ;)

Soo that didn't go down well :-/ she's been going to sleep within 5 mins of pd but was still chattering after 15min so I gave meds. Guess teeth still bothering her- only the tips of canines are out...

So how bad am I for medicating before nap, BT and motn? Should I just let her ride it out?!

If we've got teeth coming through I medicate up to the hilt,  to be honest.  But I come from a family of very laissez faire medical professionals who (rightly or wrongly) think nothing of a bit of calpol ! ;)
