8 week old slow feeds!
« on: November 28, 2013, 17:36:10 pm »
Hello all
Problems as well.
My girl is falling asleep with feeds, she is 8 weeks. I have the nuk bottles.
It is taking her a while to feed and she is not always getting 3oz at a time (she is 8 pounds)
Suggestions?
Lynn

Have you tried a faster teat for her? Falling asleep after a few oz which is taking a while to have sounds like she needs a faster teat! I would try that first and see if it helps!

My 7 wk old daughter does the same thing!  We've gone through many different bottles:  Dr. Browns, Born wide with air system, Ventaire (Playtex), Nuk orthodontic, and I've tried both latex and silicone nipples. She prefers latex (or rather the thicker, rubber nipples…I think they are latex free). I've thought about a faster nipple flow, but as it stands she spills and spurts milk out of the sides and bottom of her mouth, even on infant and slow flow nipples. In addition she will pull off of the bottle and cry, yet she grunts around, opens her mouth and hits it with her hand as if she wants more. When the bottle is offered to her again she doesn't take it but cries until her pacifier is given to her.  I've figured out that I can let her calm down enough to offer the bottle again. Sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't.

I think I'm overly sensitive about her feeds given I couldn't breast feed (and really wanted to).

She was 8.11 at her one month visit. She has her 2 mth visit in 1.5 weeks.
