Ninth Anniversary of Tracy's Passing
« on: November 25, 2013, 09:35:54 am »
Tracy Hogg, RNMH “The Baby Whisperer"
Born and raised in the north of England, Tracy worked in several reknowned hospitals including St. Catherine's Hospital for the Mentally Handicapped, where she first discovered her gift for understanding children's cries, gestures, body language, and other nonverbal cues -a talent she would later apply to babies. When she emigrated to the United States in 1992, Tracy began to work exclusively with parents and their new babies, helping them make the transition from delivery room to first diapers and eventually into toddlerhood.

In 2001 Tracy, working with her co-author, award-winning journalist Melinda Blau, published her first book, Secrets of the Baby Whisperer: How To Calm, Connect, and Communicate With Your Baby, which instantly became a New York Times bestseller. Just one year later, Secrets of the Baby Whisperer for Toddlers was published and became a national bestseller as well.
In June 2002 Tracy teamed up with Discovery Health in Great Britain to produce a fifteen-part television series entitled The Baby Whisperer. Each episode demonstrates not only Tracy's incredible problem-solving skills, but also her compassion for children and parents.
In 2004, even as she was battling a life-threatening disease, Tracy and her co-author collaborated on The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems. Because Tracy knew that this might be her last book, she was determined to cover every conceivable problem so that even if she couldn't help parents personally, her book would.

Sadly, Tracy lost her battle to melanoma on November 25, 2004. Seven years later her legacy lives on in her books, her tapes, her television programmes, and, mostly, the spirit of this website. The Babywhisper website realized one of Tracy's greatest dreams: to create a place where thousands of devoted parents can come to share their experiences and to support one another. What she possibly didn't imagine, though, was that this virtual community would also make sure that her wit and wisdom could never die.

We hope that you will join us in paying tribute to Tracy on this thread. The thread will remain here in this board as a lasting tribute on this special day.

You might also want to light a candle in memory here:

Light A Candle

If you would like to add the remembrance avatar, you may save it to your computer and upload it like you normally would.

As is our tradition here at the Babywhisperer Forums, to honour Tracy on the anniversary of her death, we close all the "non-core" boards to leave open our core boards of Eat, Activity, Sleep.

Thankful every day for Tracy's sensible writings and this community she envisioned, where parents come to learn and share how to raise children whilst respecting the child's own personality, feelings and humanity.

So thankful for the tools to be able to relate to different personalities...wouldn't have known what to do with my Grumpy baby otherwise.  Also thankful for this community of support, ideas, love, and light.

A Godsend to us all and such a devoted woman to the passion, care and language of our little ones.  Though just recently introduced to your wonderful books and words and this forum, I am honored to be a part of sending my love and thank you on this 9th anniversary.  You are loved and cherished in my heart - and one day when my little Waylon comes to understand more, he will know about you too.  Love and hugs to you Tracy and to your family!

Thank you, Tracy, for helping me be the mum I am today - not perfect, by any account - but more respectful of my child and someone who takes the time to understand who he is, without an agenda. Thank you for being the best gift I can give to my fellow mums out there who are feeling lost.

I also thank you for the international friendships I have made and for the skills and understanding of why and how to approach a multitude of different parenting challenges.

It's hard to believe that nine years have passed.  Tracy was an extraordinary person, gift with babies and toddlers, incredibly compassionate, especially to mums, as she called them, and a friend I'll never regret.  Days before she died, she asked me to finish "the family book," and I have a feeling she knows I did  May she rest in peace and stay in our hearts forever.  Hers was a truly unique and inspirational voice.
Mother, grandmother, journalist, and woman of the world--interested in people and relationships.
I carry on in Tracy's footsteps, taking "baby whispering" into the next decade after toddlerhood, in our fourth book, "Family Whispering."

I used TBW when I nannied and at first when I started the book, I thought it was crazy to routinize a baby.  I finished the book in a day and had that baby girl trained up so quick, the parents would text me for sleeping tips and I would say "it's all in the book you made me read!"

Now that I have my own DS...

The night I found out Tracy had passed so long ago, I was lying on the floor of my DS' nursery, he was 6 weeks, waking every 15 minutes, crying, I was crying and I went online to find Tracy's phone number in England because I was going to call her and wake her up and beg for help.

What a horrible moment it was to learn she was no longer walking the Earth, a woman who was clearly a Godsent Angel.

Since then, I have made my DH and my mom read the book so we could all work together and utilize her expertise.  No other book has offered the amount of help she did and I am so thankful for this forum, I can't believe I'm joining after my baby is five months old!!!

Thank you for continuing this.  Reading her letters was an honor.
