Im sorry to hear u had a bad day & night AMJ 😩

For her naps is she falling asleep independantly? The short naps could be because she struggles to self settle, so after her first sleep cycle she cant settle back off once she stirs. So you are probably best tackling independant sleep first and you may find that her naps extend with that.

If you feel you want to stick with set naps for a little longer whilst working on pu/pd then go for it. Just be careful of OT.

I hope you get some resulta soon xx

Thank you!
No she is not falling asleep independently for her naps. This could be the issue but sometimes she is able to put herself through 2 hrs of sleep.
We will do the training and go from there. Should I aim for 3hrs30mins of morning A and then try for the AM nap and then continue with the day according to how the AM nap goes, right?

Just an update. We are doing great so far with pu/pd. I started on Sunday because she just wasn't sleeping so it took me very long to get her to nap for the first time (but it was out of her set nap time) that night she fell asleep completely on her own. So it's day 3 and she falls asleep all on her own as long as it around her usual nap time. Few times she just need a little encouragement. Also she resettled wonderfully. Second day in a row she sleeps through the night!!!!! This hasn't happen in months. The only thing she does wake up multiple times at night (early night mostly from 8-12) but sometimes also later but she does self sooth. Does this mean she is OT and I need to change her day? I'm experimenting with A  times a bit as long as naps are +/- 15 mins around set times.

this was our yesterday:
Wu 5:10
9:00 S

10:15 WU (here I have to increase her S from 1 hr to 1.5hrs slowly so the PM nap is not moved forward to fast otherwise will refuse it)
1:00 S

2:30 WU
6:20 BT

5:30am WU

Thanks

Happy New Year

Such a brill update!! Well done mummy!! Yay

I think yesterday after that 1hr15 min nap I would have pushed a little more than 2hr45 A to 3hr A. So, nap 1.15 to 2.45, then bed around 6.15/6.30.

Ideally (what I would do) is aim for that second nap around 2 (not yet as too big jump but eventually) nap until 3.30 then you have a 3.5hr A time until bed at 7. (this is what dd would do she gets OT if the last A is too long which causes wakes in the early part of the night) but having the nap at 2 would mean the AM nap at 10 to 11ish which would be on a normal wake up time. So your not there yet.

But for now, looks like you are doing great, I am thinking that now she is napping and sleeping better she may start waking a little later. **fingers crossed for you**!!

thank you! thank you! thank you! All the ladies who helped me through all of this trouble. I am so grateful!
Jodes, yesterday we ended up having WU 5:30, S 9:00, WU 10:15, S 1:20, WU 2:25, BT 6:00 and she slept without a peep even through fireworks till 5:30 AM WOW. the only thing is she finds it hard to self soothe for the PM nap and needs my help a little, and then she wakes with a cry 30 mins into it but self soothes. I think maybe increasing her AM nap till 1.5hrs will make it easier for her to stay up 3hrs during the second A.i just find it surprising that she can last 3.5hrs in the first and last A but not second A!?

Layla, you were telling me long ago that the issue could be not sleeping independently but i was so terrified to start the sleep training that I was trying everything else first. You were right!

Now with set naps and at almost 9 months old how do I know when she would need more A? When we were doing A times i know because her naps were getting shorter, what about now? What's next? just want to be prepared  :)

Thanks again everyone!

Also have a question about this situation. DD WU at 4:20, I think pain, so I gave her meds, fed her and placed in the crib at 4:40. She fell asleep at 5:05 and slept till 6:50 am. Her set nap is at 9:00 but I'm not sure if she will be tired for it. The next nap is at 1:00/1:15. What would you do in this situation? TIA!!

Wow brill wake up this morning!

If i were you id put down at 10 and cap at an hour max,  and then aim for second nap at 2, to 3.30 at latest, then normal bedtime of 7pm.

I hope you have cracked the early wake here! Fingers crossed xx

Just noticed your previous post. For us we always have an EW and NW when we need a routine shift (more A time/less sleep).

Once it continues and u get in the swing of things you will notice if things are changing/ready for changing. But if i were you i wouldnt worry and just enjoy your new schedule!

Whenever I let dd3 sleep in, I offer her the morning nap around 3 hrs later but it will either be naturally short or I make it short (I take her for a walk and she generally doesn't sleep more than 30-40mins in the pram). Mind you, we're doing the short am/long pm nap here so that suits us well. You're right though, she probably won't be ready for a nap at 9am so I would also put her down around 10am and fingers and toes crossed you've cracked the EW!!!

With regards to where to go from here - you will know when she needs more A when she starts fighting the nap. So you mentioned before it takes her a little longer to settle in the afternoon... that may be because she needs more A rather than less in the afternoon. This is why I prefer to keep the morning nap short... I used to hate it when dd1 would fight me on the afternoon nap so I've always gone the short am/long pm schedule with dd2 and now with dd3.

This link will give you an idea of what may come in the next couple of months. 10/ 11mo sleep gone wonky? Read this first! (2-1 switch)

Congratulations again... give yourself a BIG pat on the back!!! ;D ;D :-*

Thanks to both!
So I had her in the crib at 10:10 am and it she fell asleep at 10:35( I had to come in). I woke her at 12:00. but then she refused the pm nap completely ( again I think because of different time then the set nap). I had her in the crib at 3:00 and was trying for 45 mins then took 10 mins break and DH is trying now. Have a feeling she will just have to wait till usual 6 pm BT.
I don't know what time she will wake tomorrow morning but im not sure if I should wake her if she sleeps longer then 5:45 am (5:30 was her usual for the past few days) so try moving her day in 15 mins increments. Or just let her sleep as long as she wants and offer the naps according to A times. This might cause more missed naps though???

This is where you need to start capping the nap so that you can fit 2 naps in! If i were you this AM i would have given a short nap 1hr max and then gone for a longer Pm one.

Because you had a later WU you will have to cap the AM nap in order to get the PM nap. DD will have 30 mins AM and then 1hr 30 pm. But if you didnt want to cap that much an hour is a good starting point!

Good lick with nap/EBT!

I was thinking of doing what was proposed before and letting her nap 1.5hrs in the A and then short PM, but now I need to go back to short AM and long PM all because of the later WU?
So if I get this correct let her sleep as long as she wants in the morning, then 3hrs30/45mins of A, then 1hr AM nap, then 3hrs of A, then 1.5hrs max PM nap and then 3hrs30mins last A, correct?
thanks

A 'normal' wake up tine would be between 6&7am so i would let her sleep til 7 at the latest, you can then choose shorter am nap or shorter pm nap, if she is fighting the pm nap then a shorter am nap would be better as she will be more tired for the pm nap and not resist. So would look like today as example-

Wu 6.50
Nap 10.25- 10.15

Nap 1.30 - 3

Does that make sense?

If you were going for long AM short PM she would want more A time after a longer AM nap. So -

Wu 6.50

Nap 10.25-12

Nap3.30-4ish this would be a catnap to get her through to bedtime 7/7.15

See what i mean x
