If your lo had/has MSPI...
« on: November 28, 2013, 18:13:36 pm »
Could they tolerate soy oil &/or lecithin?

Have cut out obvious soy and most hidden stuff (along with dairy, beef & egg) but yesterday ate out and had two things with soy oil as ingredients and nothing else different. E is very unsettled, started last evening (so about 4/5hours after I ate the food) with gas/spit up/explosive poos...she normally has some wind but never this bad or a lot of spit up since I cut the above mentioned foods out.

Soy oil was a no go but soy lethicin was ok. I think most MPSI babies do ok with lethicin. Hugs. I hope she feels better soon!!

Yeah I figured that Sara...but didnt take time to research my menu options beforehand and soy is a new one to us! DH is getting quite confused as to who can eat what around here!

Good to know Kate! Will be scrutinizing ingredients even more now. Frankly I have just been eating more whole foods anyways as easier to pinpoint what is going on vs anything processed.

Some LO's with MPI also are soy protein intolerant.  I want to say there is similarity in the protein chains.  :-\
That said soy oil has had less processing than soy lecithin which would explain why some LO's can tolerate the lecithin better than the oil

Oh that makes sense about the difference in processing Deb. Ugh. My brain really cannot handle figuring out what to cook for supper that is okay for both me/E & S...especially since S can finally do egg and some dairy and I can't!

I know this is old...but just wanted to say that I tried t on lethacin and he has been absolutely fine. Since then I've read it's usually tolerated as there no proteins in there....pretty much as Kate said here

Forgot about this thread! Well we are actually coming out the other end of this sooner than I thought...she can tolerate me having small amounts of dairy and soy, and since she is on solids I will soon try her on them too. She has been tolerated a more broken down milk based formula so my first step will be regular formula. Just waiting for the weekend so DH and the kids can help me if it goes south and she is cranky!!

That's fab! :)
Still no dairy or wheat here. But my suspicion is T will be ok on soy. He can have oats - but no wheat and he's loving eggs!

Good luck with the regular formula trial :-*

PLA - may be worth seeing if your LO can tolerate soy lethicin as it is in almost everything

Yes but soy yogurt will have soy proteins in it. The soy lethicin is 'in' things ie dairy free margarines. But rarely is it a problem with intolerances as the protiens are not in it.

Are you avoiding everything that 'contains soy' or just soy things
