In the uk we get 56wks I think but how much of that is paid depends on your employer. I got 26wks full pay and then 13wks at statutory pay which was about £160 I think.  The government pay the statutory part and employers pay the rest. The rest of thr weeks were unpaid. We also accrue annual leave at our usual rate (at least 28 days pa) so get more time to take at full pay if we take that at the end of the mat leave. I think UK and my employer especially are one of the best packages though.

52 weeks in Canada, but technically 35 of those are parental leave that either can take.

You can also apply for a career break with many companies for a year or two after mat leave and they will hold a job for you. Obviously that is unpaid though.

It's 52 weeks in Canada but mat leave is only 17 of those weeks, then 35 weeks of parental leave which can be taken all by mom or split between parents... that said, we get paid 55% of our gross income up to a max of $501/week right now (you hit that with a $47 400 annual salary).  It's taxable income too..

:o WOW! I had no idea it was such a difference.  Well that explains a lot about our culture now doesn't it. ugh  Good for you guys, I'm actually glad to hear their are people in the world who are thoughtful and wise enough to make long parental leave a priority.  On that thought... I think I am sufficiently motivated to nurse as long as my lo has interest.  Many thanks.

Here in Brazil doctors recommend 6 months of exclusive brestfeeding and then up to 2 years, which almost nobody does.

Maternity leave is only 4 months so usually babies start solids around this age so they can be at daycare while mom goes to work...
