Switching slowly to formula questions.
« on: December 09, 2013, 17:17:34 pm »
Hello

I have been BF for nearly 4 months and now want to move across to formula slowly. I've already dropped one feed (1/2pm) feed so far. the next feed To drop I'm thinking is the late feed (10pm) one. Do I express my boob at this time or leave it??? Thinking if I express this will keep my supply up but if I don't my boobs will become uncomfortable in night and may become engorge and risk mastitis. Also if she has formula at this last feed she May sleep longer so boobs are waiting longer to be relieved.

What do people advise?? Xxx

Hi! I did something similar with DD1 but as I couldnt express I just dropped feeds slowly, iirc the morning feed was last to go. As for pumpng at the last feed, maybe if you pump a small amount to avoid engorgement and then slowly pump less and less at that time? As for sleeping longer with formula - it is no guarantee! DD3 is my only ebf baby (older two were fed formula at bedtime and slowly dropped bf's for formula) and she was the earliest to sttn, go figure!
