Is this a stage?
« on: December 13, 2013, 11:23:59 am »
My 8wo has just started to take shorter feeds. I have a fast let down and a long feed is normally 7mins L and 10 R. During the day he slurps it down until (his thirst is satisfied I guess?!) he starts looking around and then he doesn't go back on. again. ever. Well, until next feed time. I'm currently apop in the backpack for naps due to the older two needing to get outside and he goes out with a dummy not protesting. when he wakes, sometimes after 2h3/2h45/3h, he feeds and does this again. Yet at night and at bt, he'll do longer (normal long feed). I know he's probably relaxed and sucking for the fun of it at the very end, his weight gain is good, but his wees are getting yellow and sometimes even has the little pink crystals (seen these with my second). So that sounds like he is doing ok, but slightly dehydrated - it is 40C summer here.
Besides hiding under a wrap, so he can't see out - not always a success, any ideas as to how to get a longer feed out of him?

I can remember my middle boy getting like this but can't remember what I did...

Feeding more frequently will increase the amount of foremilk he gets which is more watery. That might help with the dehydration. The length of feeds sounds fine though. They do get more efficient.

Good to hear you have had more luck today.

Not sure where you are but I assume you guys still get ongoing care from a medical professional such as a paed a or gp if not a HV. I would mention the crystals and see what they say. That is something worth keeping an eye on.
