When to pump to increase FROZEN supply?
« on: December 18, 2013, 18:35:17 pm »
DD eats 4 times a day, every 4 hours from when she wakes til bedtime, and not overnight.

Should I pump right after a feed, an hour after?

TIA!

Have you read our FAQ in pumping. Pumping

I used to pump after LO was in bed at night, sometimes a few hours after to give the milk time to accumulate. I know others have success pumping immediately after the morning feed when breast tend to be fullest, especially if LO only takes one side or just a bit from the second breast.

When do you want to pump?

I'll pump whenever, if there is higher chance of getting more milk, I do pump after the morning feed, and if I am up hours after she goes to bed. I wasn't sure if there was a know time after any pumping session to wait. I remember Tracy said somewhere to wait an hour??

If you pump within half an hour of a feed then the letdown reflex has already been primed.  But you'd also get more (usually!) in the morning due to the raised prolactin levels overnight.

I did morning too, after about 1h from BFing, had more milk then.
If you stick to the same time every day, your body will adjust and  make more milk at that time so I guess just pick a time and stick to it.

I'd go for morning too, because I used to be less comfortable then also. But like pps said, if you do it regularly then your body will start to adjust for it.

Well done you for pumping with 2 kids to think about! I couldn't manage every day - it was the straw that broke the camel's back for me - so I am really impressed!
