I need a pep talk
« on: December 20, 2013, 10:51:14 am »
So,I've been breast feeding for almost three months and it is going well enough but I just feel a bit blah. I haven't been able to get her to take a bottle, and if I pump I don't get anything anyway. Dh is good with her but obvs I can't leave her for long. She's still waking three times most nights although we have had the odd night she wakes twice. And she's so sloooooow, at least half an hour to feed but more often 45 minutes. I'm not stopping breast feeding but it just seems like hard work at the moment. Can I have a kick in the bum to spur me on?  Lol

Here's a kick - and a hug!

I remember it well. It did feel like such hard work because it was constant - and because I couldn't get away. I was quite honest at the time that I felt trapped.

Do remember that it isn't forever, and that hopefully she will drop some night feeds soon.

Hugs hun and here with you. Some days I feel so trapped and like I could stop any minute (except she won't take a bottle) and then other times like now when she's all snuggled in stroking my boob rhythmically while she feeds and is so relaxed and lovely!

Thank you :-*. I love it really but I freak out at the responsibility of it sometimes. But she's doing so well and is gorgeous so I must carry on ;).

Yeah I think it's a mixed blessing sometimes but I wouldn't have it any other way. You are doing a FAB job but I really think it's ok to feel a bit trapped sometimes by it because BFing can be really hard work on us mamas! Xxx

Sounds like you are doing great and continuing to give your LO the very best start possible.

Looking back I was always glad I persevered during the tricky stages - before you know it it will get much easier with less frequent and quicker feeds plus a BF during the night has to be easier than making up a bottle.
When it's all over you'll look back with rose tinted glasses, remembering all of the lovely and convenient bits. As well as the health benefits etc.

You're doing brilliantly and it's totally normal to feel a bit wobbly from time to time.

That's so true Laura! E has already gone from her long 45 min feeds down to 15-20!  It happened so gradually I did not even clue in until all of a sudden we had all sorts of time before the school run!

I think it's the length of the feeds that gets me!  She's always done a lot of comfort sucking and even now rarely takes less than 40 minutes.  That doesn't leave much time for anything else. I just have to keep telling myself it's only a short time, right?

Some good news-the last two nights she's only woken twice so that's an improvement.

Take the positives wherever you can!!!! That's great about the 2 feeds. C was a long feeder so I can appreciate how tying it feels. You're doing great! Xxx

You're doing great!  :)  I agree with the other ladies -- it is so hard in the moment sometimes.

I agree...miss those days so much!
FWIW Oscar was the longest feeder ever...totally fine when its your first I suppose.
Emma actually fed FAR too short and my battle with her was to take long enough feeds (she tired easily due to TT and was always hyper-spirited and super distracted).
