7 month old waking after half hour
« on: December 26, 2013, 14:53:02 pm »
Hi there
hopefully someone will have an insight on this.... my 7 month old wakes up crying after exactly half hour of putting him down for the night... He takes two 90 min naps and awake times are 3 hrs...I go in and comfort him when he wakes up but he keeps crying.. When he stops crying I put him down and he goes to sleep on his own... He is teething but I don't think that it is bugging him because that is the only time he is waking up in the night.... He sleeps through the night

Thank you. Any ideas would be helpful

It's probably teething.  He maybe hasn't gotten into a deep enough sleep yet at that point.  How long has it been going on?

Or he could be slightly overtired - you can try putting him to bed just 5 or 10 mins earlier to see if that helps...

He is pretty out of it within 5mins of putting him down.... If it was teething, shouldn't he wake up all throughout the night? It's been about 5 days since he s been doing this....I could try putting him down earlier.... Thanks for your help

It seems like its separation anxiety.... tonight I stayed in the room with him and when I try to leave, he would cry.... Any suggestions on how to overcome this?

You could try to step back every few feet every 10 mins.  Is he soothed by your voice?

Hi hun, deep breaths we've all been there and it's so frustrating I know. How have you tried treating the teething? Meds before bed or dream meds? Have you tried giving meds about 30 min or so before your BT routine to see if that helps? Otherwise if it's OT could you try a slightly EBT to see if that helps?

Usually waking half hour after bed and crying means OT but you might need to just go with your gut.  I wouldn't jump to four hours - I would try 15 min increments...

He naps twice in the day for 1.5 hours each... awake time throughout the day is 3 hours....he can self settle and naps without any problems...I dont know what happens at night...and he does this only once at night...sleeps through the rest of the night

You could try a slightly earlier bedtime for a few days (maybe 15mins) and if that doesn't help, try a slightly later bedtime (15mins) to see if that will help. I do remember dd3 also went through a stage of crying at bedtime and I had to send DH in to shh/pat her - there was a bit of SA there and she was also teething but I found she was settling alot sooner with DH than with me.

My lo at 19M still acts up for bt if I do it. If the babysitter or DH does it he's totally fine. Just wants more time with mama but if i'm strict with him and tell him to lay down and I leave he'll whine/cry for a min or two then he'll settle in and chat himself to sleep. But from about 16-19m I couldn't leave the room his SA was so bad. It will get better. I think Layla is right just try ebt for a week then a later bt for  aweek to see if you can figure out if it's ut or ot.

Hun if you are going to tweak it will take more than a day to see a difference.  You'll want to try something for at least 4-5 days to see if it works. I'm trying to remember but do you feed him at night at all? Do you feed right before bed? Could somethjing like solids at dinner because him to wake with gas?

Maybe try stopping dinner for now. He doesn't need it anyway if you are doing breakfast and lunch at this age he really doesn't need dinner and maybe do bottle closer to bt? Just  trying to think of things to  try

Oh you said you feed him solids 3hrs before bed? That's what i was thinking may cause discomfort. It might just be a phase and it will pass. Then something else will come along ;)

If ebt isn't working, try 15 mins later to see if that helps.

We pretty much went by set nap times and the morning nap was no earlier than 9 am so that our day can be more or less the same. If she woke super early, like 5am, i would vary the day by 15 mins or so but not more than that.
