difficulty to get baby down for some naps
« on: December 30, 2013, 17:51:08 pm »
hi there,

my 7 months old daughter just started sleeping through the night. she usually sleeps 11 hrs straight, e.g. from 8pm till 7am. however I am having difficulties to put her down for any subsequent nap after the first one in the day. for the first nap she goes down beautifully because I am getting the timing right. her current A time is 3hrs15 mins. she usually sleeps then for 1 hr 15 mins or 20 mins. when I try to put her down for a nap then after an A time of 3.15hrs she is protesting and it takes a good while and eventually she only sleeps for 30 or 35 mins, so she wakes up OT. does she have a shorter A time after the first nap? extending the nap never works. we usually end up inserting a CN again which we actually got rid off in the last month. by the end of the day she is so OT that putting her down for BT can take another halfn hr of screaming and excessive pu/pd. previously she would have gone down for all naps and BT without crying and self settling. I dont want to have an early BT as she sleeps so well now at night and I dont want her night to be over at 5am, if she lets say has an early BT of 6pm. any advice whats going on with her A time or why I seem to get the timing wrong all the time... ?
thanks a lot.

Hi Fran,

Many babies have different A times at different times of day. Sounds like she is OT for that second nap, so I would try bringing it a little earlier, 15 minutes might be enough. I would try to avoid the CN if you can at all (though obviously difficult sometimes!) and go for early bed time instead.

yes thats what I have been trying to do but yesterday for example she woke up after 40 mins (after an A time of 3 hrs), so that indicates to me an UT nap. I will try with 5 minutes increments...
