4 month old refusing to take bottle
« on: January 03, 2014, 15:58:45 pm »
Hello,

I am new here and wonder if anyone can help me out.  I have started to re-introduce the bottle to my 4 month old (she did amazing with it when we first introduced at 5 weeks - expressed milk, but then I got lazy pumping so we stopped bottle feeding after about 2 weeks =P)... little did I know she would forget how to do it (yea, ftm here).  Now she won't suck on the nipple and if she does for a little bit she spits out the milk (I have tried thawed milk or refrigerated milk - 1d old, but not yet freshly pumped, and I have only tried one bottle type).  Then after a while she would get so upset with it and screams.  We have tried letting my husband bottle feed, still no luck.  I am getting anxious because I will be going back to work part time next month when my husband would be home with her doing the feeding.  I am worry she won't eat, and as a consequent, won't nap for the day until I get back and BF her - as all of you can imagine what that would be like - already start to feel bad for both my daughter and my husband.................

I have tried offering bottle before breast, offering bottle BF one side, didn't make any difference.

Can anyone share their experience with bottle training?  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there, welcome!
First off, there are some great suggestions here: Breastfed babies and bottles for getting BF babies to take bottles. :)

Second, I'm going to move this over the breastfeeding since you'll get better advice there from ladies who have been there.

Are you using the same flow of nipple you did at first? If so perhaps a faster flow would help. We tried 3 different bottles this time before settling on Dr Browns.
