Can anyone recommend BF help in South London UK??
« on: January 04, 2014, 11:07:55 am »
My sister had a new baby girl on 21 December and they've had such trouble with feeding.  They need some expert help as soon as possible, baby had to go back to hosital at 3 days old due to dehydration.  Though she was sorted out then, whatever advice they had hasn't helped much as they are still in difficulties.  Can anyone recommend a good lactation consultant in South London or Kent? They really are struggling.  :(

And if anyone knows a good cranio-sacral osteopath in the area, that'd be good too.

Help!!

I do know someone who has offered peer support in the Kent area so am trying to get some information about the group.  I would imagine they'd have a BFC/LC onboard as well, so just waiting to hear back from her.  Give me a poke if I forget! :)

That is my area but I haven't used a LC so can't recommend a person.

Can her hv, midwife, GP or hospital not give her info on local support groups?

Here is a list that may be worth considering http://www.lcgb.org/consultants_local_london.html#S

Thanks Ali, this is really useful. They've had a doula (another BW recommendation) come to the house so they are in good hands.  I'll take this thread down shortly. Xx

She could contact her local La Leche League and I'm sure they'd be able to point her in the right direction for local support.

Here is the FB page for the SE London LLL group (it's a private group so she'd have to request to join).  They organise meetups and have loads of info.

If she posted on there I'm sure she'd get some suggestions for a consultant/source of help.

If she's not in SE London - you can search for local groups here: http://www.laleche.org.uk/find-lll-group/

PS I'm happy to ask for her on the SE London LLL page if she's not on FB.  Just let me know.

Ah Catherine, that's really kind of you, thanks.  I might pass that on for future reference.  As it stands, they're seeing a specialist today to be properly (I hope) assessed for tongue tie.  It's in that sort of territory.  I'm sure, though, LLL and other kinds of peer support will be really valuable as they go on.  ]

And thanks Amanda too, so kind.

Still didn't get a response, sorry.
FWIW, LCs do still miss TTs that BFCs (who have also received loads of training, but just, generally, aren't paid) find.  If there's one there, I hope they can get it fixed soon.

Thanks all.

Turns out she does have tongue tie and also a heart condition.  This would not have been discovered if it hadn't been for 15milner's doula recommendation.  So very grateful.  Had an operation on her heart today and seems all is well so far.

Healing vibes for a tiny baby please

Thank goodness indeed. I'm in a total heap today, I think it's a reaction to the stress.
