8 month old night waking after illness
« on: January 02, 2014, 08:22:28 am »
Hi
am new to here but really need some help
my boy us 8 months old and just before and over christmas had a cold and at same time a growth spurt and teeth were bithering him.
normally growth spurts for him cause him to wake a lot!!
Anyway the cold has gone and ge still wakes a lot screaming (he normally does not cry like that unkess in pain)
He self settles as he was tought this with pick up put down around 4/5 month's
so  heres how it goes
bed at 7 gets put down awake with dummy and teddy,
Wakes at 10 give tedfy and or dummy back
wakre up 12 screaming pick up and cradke (wont calm down any other way)put down when calm
Wake up 2 same as above
Wake up 4-430 screaming wont calm down unless rock while sitting in chair
after this he uo every half hour
have tried oick up put down but nit working, dont want to di controlled crying as coukd be griwth spurt and cause he is screaming

If I dont get him to sleep he us suoer grouchy for day so end uo lying him on my bed I don't cuddle him just put him there and he sleep know that not good butsome time after 4 it only way to get him to skeep
Wonder if this could also be seperation anxiety?
dummy gets  spat out quite early on  and in past didn't wake for it
both these items were introduced teddy to stop feeding to sleep association and dummy to calm as he was very windy and this helped

Hi there and welcome to the BW!

Sorry to hear about all those NWs.. you must be exhausted!

If he's used be being rocked at night, you will probably have to do some sleep training again with pu/pd rather than rock him to sleep at every night waking as this is something he may have gotten used to. Can hubby help? I find dd3 settled much better when I would send DH in.

Would you also be able to post your daytime routine please, including feeds :)

Hi sorry abiut my delay
things have changed slightky but am confused abiut what sleeptraining to do
so full routine as follows
7-7:30 wake up and breakfast
830 845 bottle 5-7OZ
9-930 NAP TILL apppeox 45 mins -1 hour
12 lunch
1300 1330 nap normally 1.5 hours 2 hours
14301530 bottle 7 oz
1600 snack
1700 17e0 dinner
1800 bath (just started bath qt this time if day)
1900 bottle cuddle bed
when I out hi  diwn for naps and sleep he is always awake and settles himself
so night time waking
he does wake several times a litgle winge I leave him  few mins to see if he will drop off sometimes he does great !, other times no if leave him too long he get hysterical so when I go to see him I dint say anything just give him teddy or dummy or both then he is gone again for few hour's
sometimes he wakes and is just playing so I leave him and he drifts off
I have also discovered whe he wake crying properly its nirmslky  cause by wind so I just roll him onto side he wiggles and out it comes thinkmin his sleep he forgrts to move!
I hope that all makes sence and someone can ad isewhzt I can do as I settle him and he is off agai  but he just repeats
I really dont want to leave him till hysterical as I dont think that fair

Sorry I am a little confused - he had 3 naps and last nap ended at 5pm? If you think wind is causing some of the night wakings, could you change his dinner meal, if he has gassy type foods at dinner? Are you still rocking him to sleep when he wakes at night?
