16 m.o. fighting his naps
« on: January 17, 2014, 13:37:58 pm »
Hello everyone,
My DS is 16 m.o. and Ive recently had searious problems putting him down for his nap. He usually wakes up at 7 and around 13 I can see him yawn and rub his eyes. That's when he used to have his nap. I would normally just put him in his bed, close the curtains and he would fall asleep on his own (that's what happens when he's with his nanny during naptime). But he just refuses to go to sleep when he's with me. Later during the day (when he skips the nap) he doesn't seem ot, has a pretty good mood and goes to sleep at 20 with no problems at all. Also at night he seems to sleep better-no or less nw.
On the other hand, if his nanny puts him to sleep at 13, he sleeps 2-2,5hrs and doesnt want to go to sleep at 20. Theres a lot of crying etc.
So my question is if you have any advice how to deal with this situation. Can I let him skip the nap when he's with me.? Should the nanny wake him up earlier from his nap? Hes so young and Im worried if he gets enough sleep.

P.S. I tried putting him to sleep in many different ways- paci, holding his hand, just being with him in the room, storytelling, longer winddown routine. Nothing helped.

Have you consulted, in detail, about what the nanny is doing exactly? I surely wouldn't skip the nap if at all possible. Even if you have to do some AP ( car nap, stroller etc..) Have you tried limiting the nap to 2 hours?
