12mths old NW again
« on: January 21, 2014, 01:34:56 am »
Hi
He was STTN for about a month then he started daycare, gastro, and cold.  He's been better for about a week now.
Because of gastro I have given him water during the night when he cried out.
Then cold with stuffy nose started so I held him until he fell asleep.
He's able to fall asleep without me being in the room for naps but not for night time now.

For the last 3 nights he doesn't want water but bottle because he doesn't eat solids during the day.
I have tried to shush to calm him down but he wakes again in 40min then again in 40min.

I weaned him off bottle at 11mth by diluting with water so should I do this again?
He sleeps from 7:30pm-12:30am then again at 5am(I feed him 8oz.).

What should I do during the night?

so is he having 2 night feeds then? Yes I would wean them as you did last time, I would just take one out cold turkey tbh but wean the other more slowly if you think he needs that.
Do you think he could be teething? Have you tried meds?
What has his routine looked like the last 2 days?

Thanks for your reply
I stopped the 1am feed (only water but still stopped)
He cries short burst of cry then stops for almost 2 hrs.(midnight to 2am ish)
Wakes around 5am ( I give him a bottle 4oz diluted to 8oz)
Wake 6:45
7:00 breakfast
10:30 nap for 1hr
12:00 lunch
1:30 8oz
2:30-3:45 nap
5:00 dinner
7:00 bottle.

He just start to resist the 1st nap at the daycare bc they start morning nap at 9:45am
So he only had one nap today so previous schedule is for Sat and Sunday.

He has 8 teeth already so I am not sure if he's teething.
He's starting to eat quite a bit of solids so I don't think it's hunger.
Thanks,
Monica

ok, well the crying in the night 'could' be due to dropping the feed - how long has it been gone for? It might take a little while to get used to. Having said that 2 hours is a long time so if it were me I would try meds and see if that helps. I also think it would be better to get rid of the other night feed so he knows what to expect - if he gets fed one time but not the other it might be unsettling him.

He is at the age for the 2:1 transition so if it were me I would shorten one of the naps to about 45 mins and then aim for a longer i.e. 1.5 ish nap as at the moment neither nap is 'that' restorative. I always did a short am nap and a long pm but you can choose...what do you think?

2 nights ago he slept well until 5 so I thought everything was getting better but last night he woke every 2 hrs so I checked his teeth this morning.
He has a molar coming out!!!
Since he sleeps from 7:15pm-12:00ish I wonder if I should give him med at this time.

You are right :-[

Also, we will transition to 1 nap as well.
Since he resist the morning nap I thought I would give him the morning nap later around 11am.
He would want to have a longer nap this way.  Should I leave him to have a longer nap or wake him to give hims longer nap earlier?
If I leave him to have a longer nap at 11am then this might lead to early wake time?

Thanks so much!

at least you know now - yes I would give meds when he wakes...hopefully he will settle quicker that way.

re the routine - if it were me I would not switch to one nap overnight, I would cut the am nap back to 30 mins and then aim for a longer pm nap before you go to one nap as he is on the younger side for transitioning....

That sounds like a good plan bc one nap transition did not do well today.
Thank you so much again.
