dealing with NW atleast every hours from 10pm
« on: January 21, 2014, 09:34:20 am »
Hi im looking for more advice, im still having a lot of problems with DS not sleeping.  He is now waking atleast every hour from 10pm. Hes is put down between 6:30-7 depending on naps for the day.  Hes just cut his first tooth at the bottom and his top gum looks a bit white like the top 2 are coming at the same time so i am giving pain relief before bed with teething gel but his nights are getting worse and worse.
i know teething effects night sleep and i don't expect him to STTN, he never has anyway since he got ill at 4mnths, but is hourly normal? How am i meant to deal with the NW? Hes starting eating ALOT during the night too and were so tired that DH has started sleeping downstairs with him, which i know is going to cause more problems but were so tired

is there any advice for dealing with this?

his easy over the last 2 days has been

Wu 6:20
s 9:30-10:40
s 2:20-3:30
bt 7:20 bit later than i planned he woke 8 times before DH took him downstairs at 4am where he slept on and off till

Wu 6:15
s 9:30-10:40
s 1:45-3:20
bt 6:50 he first woke at 7:20 and was up until 8:10 then 10 then 10:30, 11 and pretty much every hour after that.

i don't think hes getting enough sleep during the day but i cant extend his naps and i have no idea about a times anymore, im lost and at my wits end. Please help

How old is he now?  Does he fall asleep on his own?  And how do you settle him back at night - are you feeding him at all?

Hes 10.5 mnths.  We have been feeding him, and hes eating nearly 2 full bottles in the night as well as his normal in the day, he just seems so hungry. At night i try shhhh pat but this makes him angry, so i keep layinb him down and leaving the room but he just gets so upset after doing this hourly were shattered and hubby takes him downstairs where he dozes on and off.  I've been trying yo get him down for a nap today since 9am, Wu at 5:50 and hes got in such a state that i gave up, and he fell asleep sat upright on sofa at 10:45, so i guess now in gonna have a very OT baby as well, can i rectify that? I don't no what to do anymore  :'(

So just to update, we had a much better night last night, and i was dreading it because his a times were pretty long, but he only woke once at 12:30-1:15.  I've decided to sleep on the floor in kids room rather than DH getting DS into the habit of being taken downstairs every time he wakes. Is that the right thing to do?

yesterday went like this
Wu 5:50
s 10:45 -11:50
s 3:20-4:30
bt 8:30

he woke at 6:15 today and fell asleep in buggy at 9am while walking the dog until 10am

do u think he needs longer a times? Or was that a fluke lol?

yeah he is an independent sleeper.

today has been

WU 6:15
S 9 - 10 (fell asleep in buggy)
S 3:30 - 4:10
BT 7:30

he went to sleep straight away for all these sleeps and wasnt grumpy at all today.

What do you think, is 5 hours too long for his age?  how would you do this lol x

Hi hun is that your normal routine or just what happened today? He would seem to me to be OT because he didn't take a restorative nap in the AM and such a short nap in the PM on a very long day.

No its not our normal routine, we don't have a set one atm im still trying to figure out what he needs.  He was on
Wu 7
s 10-11:30/12
s 2:30/3 - 4/4:30
bt 7/7:30

but he started waking earlier and earlier in the mornings, sometimes even 4am and wouldn't go back to sleep till 7 with llots of nw and his naps shortened to an hour max so i extended a times to 3.5 hours but no change.
the last few days the nw are less and are easier to resettle so im just lost as to what he needs now.

he woke at 8:30 and i just shushed him from outside room, he went back to sleep
cried at 10:30 but went back to sleep without me even going upstairs
woke at 11:45 had some water
1:45 shushed him
5:50 milk
up for the day at 7am

what does it all mean? When should i try to put him down, what a times should i aim for etc. I just cant read what's happening

I'm not sure but he could have some built up OT from the early wakings and short naps. Sounds like he is starting the 2-1 transition and his naps needed to start shortening at this age (one of them).  I would suggest pushing that morning nap out as much as you can have him take his first nap at home uncapped. Then a shortened A time in the afternoon for a shorter undertired nap and a shorter A to bed. So something like
