Eating and the two hour nap
« on: January 21, 2014, 12:05:32 pm »
Just a quick question,

So I am working on getting my six month twins in easy and out of a snack pattern. One eats some solids, the other not really. So if they have three hour activity time and then a two hour nap that is five hours, so should I give a top up bf in a time? Trying to avoid snacking but they wake a lot in the night and want to rule out hunger.

If they are sleeping for 2 hours comfortably then I wouldn't add in extra feeds - I wouldn't have thought they'd sleep if hungry.  Although they are all different, at 6 months DD was happily able to go the five hours with a bit of solids thrown in (very little to start with) and then would have last two bfs of the day closer together before bed.  We also had one night feed at 6 months (no dreamfeed) but she dropped it herself at 7 months.

Are they independent sleepers?

Well.....
They go down at night independently after bath boob book n song.
In the day they nap in buggy, working towards independence! So mixed really. Think I might give bf after solids as extra as they had weight gain issues for a while then drop as they take more, maybe hen they eat more dairy? Does that sound ok?

Sounds fine as long as they are still having their main milk feed before solids and getting most of their nutrition from milk :). You could offer a top-up almost like a thirst-quencher.

Do they nap pretty well in the buggy?  Any chance the night waking could be related to over/under tiredness?  I'm happy to have a look at their routine if that's something you want help with x

Sorry I didn't see this yesterday - how did it go?

It looks like they need a bit more A time before their second nap.  45 minute or 1h15 naps are often an indication of under tiredness.  I would try keeping them awake 15 mins or so longer and see if that helps lengthen the nap :)
