16 month old nw & ew. please help.
« on: January 22, 2014, 07:42:40 am »
Our lo is 16 months old. His routine was
wu 7
Nap 12.30-3
Bt 7.30

All was going well until he started to play up at naptime. We started to put him down at 1 and kept 3 wu. This worked for a few days but now he's waking through the night and then waking up and staying awake at about 6. Really dont know what to adjust now. He's fine during the day. Its not teething as meds make no difference. Also he's eating fine. Another change we had to make was his sleepbags. He started getting cross as his legs were getting to wrapped up so we changed to a duvet. He does climb out but he's a fidget anyway. Really dont think its the quilt issue though.

maybe he needs the 2.5 hours still? Could you push the nap to 1-3.30pm and see if that works better?

Thanks Becky but if we let him sleep later than 3 he plays up at bt and wakes between 4 & 5 for the day.
After last night i think it could be the quilt. Everytime he cried out i went to him straight away to see what position he was in. Every time he was out his quilt so i put him back and he went straight off again. This is how it was all through the night.
Any ideas of how to get him to stay under his quilt. :'(

I wish I could offer some advice to you, but I have the same issue with my son staying under his blanket too!!  I didn't use blankets when he was little in fear of suffocation and having it get wrapped around him.  We used those blanket wraps and then just thick blanket jammies.  Now if I try to put a blanket on him he freaks out!

we use sleeping bags which are great because they can't get out of them (usually!) and they keep them nice and warm - could you try that?

He's been in sleepbags since he was tiny but he gets cross and cries cos it restricts him so much. Thats why we changed to a quilt. :(

there are quilts/duvets that you can clip onto the side of the bed - have you seen them? I 'think' Jojo Maman Bebe stock them, might be worth a look. x

The quilt we have tucks right under but he still crawls out. He's a right houdini. Am surprised he's not mastered climbing out his cot yet tbh.

Does he wake up when he gets out of the covers and call to you? Do you think he is cold?

We moved to a duvet with DD at around 20 months and it actually stopped her moving around so much. We also added a pillow - are you using one? This seems to help even though it's so tiny it hardly makes a difference.

To be honest if he's fighting nap time I'd move to 1pm and as Becky had suggested let him sleep until he wakes even if that's 3.30. You could always try moving BT back to 8pm if that helps.

Is he teething at all?

We had a lot of fussing at this age with sleep and I think there is so much going on developmentally that disturbs them too. It's just a case of checking nothing else is wrong and then going with it I think. Hugs xx

Thanks guys for your replies. Its def quilt related as he's fine until early hours when the house cools down. I tried something a couple of nights ago and it kinda confirmed it. Last night was really bad. Tonight i'm putting him back in a sleepbag to see if it stops the nw. Wish me luck. Tjis mamma needs sleep lol

Well seems like going back to sleepbags was the right thing to do. Normal service (for now lol) has resumed. Happy baby = happy mummy. Thanks for all replies. ;D
