How to fix an odd sleep issue
« on: January 24, 2014, 20:34:19 pm »
LO is now 6 mo and counting. I think we're starting to get the night wakings under control, but last night he woke up 2x: once around midnight and again at 5:30A because he had not only soiled his diaper, but also his clothes, blanket, and the mattress pad! (Don't know if this should be under the night wakings section??) Last night, he was fed around the 5:30 - 6P range and then put to bed. Then he was fed around the 11:30P - 12A range and again around the 3A range. I gave him both sides during each feed, but.... wow the amount of pee this boy makes!

Has anyone else ever encountered this overnight issue and how did you deal with it? We have cloth diapers and I could put another insert inside, but I know that wouldn't be that comfortable. I know the book says to butter him up, but LO awoke trying to kick his clothes and diaper off because he couldn't take it anymore (he's such a trooper otherwise). Of course, when we changed him entirely, he screamed because he wanted to go back to sleep. Any advice on how to help him get past this issue to not wake up due to this (at least until he gets fed....I always change him then.)

I don't know anything about cloth diapers but will tell you that both my kids had/have problems with sopping wet diapers overnight and that's without any night feeds.  My DS used to wake up completely soaked every morning if we used regular diapers.  What helped most was to use Huggies night time diapers for overnights.  We went from having to change wet PJ every morning to maybe once a week.  My DD is now going through the same problems.  Even with Huggies Overnite diapers, she's still waking up soaked some mornings.  Although I think we're a size too small, so I will have to buy larger size when this current box is done.

Hi. I also used cloth. The main thing I'd say is that my DS (and from what I hear from others using cloth) didn't bat an eye to have extra stuffed diapers and a huge cute bum for bed, also that different inserts have different absorbencies, hemp more absorbent microfibre quicker to absorb so a combination of the two together can be useful.  The large quantity of wee and soaking diapers can happen with cloth or disposables.  The problem I found was over stuffing would make the fitted diaper gape at the leg but there are a huge range of options available to overcome this night problem. I only used pocket nappies but on this thread you will find lots of ideas from ladies who have used a wide range of different cloth diapers.  Woollen longies are supposed to be great but I never got around to trying them myself. maybe worth looking into.

We have the AIO Charlie Bananas with the elastic on the thighs we can tighten. Always worried about comfort though. Last night I changed LO whenever he woke up instead of immediately putting him back to sleep. This helped the soaked clothes by morning...except once he sleeps through the night (BWAHAHA....oh I crack myself up...), this might still be an issue. We'll give the insert a shot and tighten the legs maybe and see if that helps. I did notice a few poop times where it would be around the thigh.

Thanks!  ;D

I use Charlie Bananas for naps right now and need the microfibre insert paired with hemp to last a nap....we use disposables at night right now as I cant stuff a pocket diaper full enough and havent wanted to buy fitteds until she is a bit bigger so I dont have to buy more later.
