13.5 month old on 1 nap but short nap!
« on: January 26, 2014, 16:29:28 pm »
My lo has always been a terrible sleeper/napper and we never really figured out why. Finally we dropped to 1 nap at around 11 months old in an attempt to finally get a long nap and to fall asleep. The longest her average nap in now is 1hr15min-1hr30min. And that has to carry her to bedtime, Even being so exhausted she still takes about 30 min to fall asleep for the night, Our new problem is that i send her to a babysitter 3 times a week and she will not nap more then 30 min there so ineed to give her  second nap at home in the pm. This nap is so difficult( thats why we droped it) and makes bedtime so much later.Any suggestions on making this work?

Could you post your two day-types (at home and at babysitters) in EAS format with details of WU and BT as well as nap times. It sounds like the naps at the babysitter's are either OT or OS, but it would help to see the whole pattern.

a regular day is like this:
6:30- wake
11:00-12:30 (if im really lucky up to 2hrs) - Nap
6:00-bedtime

Babysitter day:
6:30 wake
10:30/11-nap for 30 min.
3:00 - nap-i try to cap at 30 min but if not sometimes she will sleep a full hour
later bedtime depending on nap length between 6:30-7:00

What is your feeling, do you think the babysitter day naps are short because she is overstimulated there, or because she's woken by other children? Do they have very usual mornings/lots of other children there?

It is odd that a slightly earlier nap would lead to an OT - type 30 min nap, so I can only think it must be OS.

My only suggestion would be on home days to push the nap slightly later f possible. Don't do it in a rush but perhaps move forward by 15 mins and hold it for a few days and see if this helps at all.

Could you try a slightly earlier nap on babysitter days so you can get an easier and earlier pm nap at home. Alternatively is there any chance you could get her home before a nap at all? What time does she get home to you?

there are only 4 children in the group. so its not too stimulating (since she has 2 wild toddler sisters at home!!!) a lot of times the babysitter will put her in earlier around 10:30 but she just called and said she does not think this is workign out bec when she wakes from her 30 min nap she needs to hold her the rest of the morning or feed her- basically she is really kvetchy! so i told her maybe tomorrow we will try to keep her up until 12 and then i am able to pick her up and nap her at home. I dont know why else she wont sleep. Today I even brought her white noise machine but she still woke after 30 min.
I really can't have this babysitter quit on us!!!
