Can I drop to 3 milk feedings?
« on: January 31, 2014, 20:20:09 pm »
My DD is 8.5 months now.  She is EBF and well established on solids.  Her current feeding schedule is:

7:30 breastfeed
8:30 breakfast
11:30 breastfeed
12:30 lunch
3 or 3:30 breastfeed
4:30 or 5 dinner
6:45 breastfeed

I feel like she's starting to lose interest in nursing.  Can I drop her to 3 milk feedings instead of 4?  If so, how do I do it?

I wouldn't, I think she is far too young. Breast milk needs to be her main source of nutrition until 12mo. Most BF LOs have 4 feeds until 12mo although some do drop to three early around 10mo.

I would cut back on solids if she is losing interest in BF. Current advice here is to only add a third solids meal between 8-9mo so it could be she is taking too much in the way of solids and it is filling her up and leaving little room for breast milk. Solid foods just cannot give the right amounts of nutrients at this age.
