Let her sleep past feed time?
« on: February 03, 2014, 10:35:04 am »
Hi all
I have a 7 week old who has been on a 3 hr easy since birth (ie I feed every 3 hours, give or take half hour sometimes) in the day. At night I feed when she wakes hungry. Sometimes she will nap more than 2 hours hence past her feed times. I sometimes let her sleep 2.5 hrs if she didn't have a full nap last time.
Should I let her sleep even longer for 3 hours if she wants to?

How often does she feed at night?  If she's feeding less than every three hours at night, then I definitely think you should feed every three hours in the day. If she's going longer stretches at night it might not be such a problem, in which case I personally would let her nap two hours as long as it doesn't take you more than 30 minutes over her feed time. How does that sound?

Hi Sarah
She has a dream feed about 10.30, sometimes 11. She wakes naturally about 2/2.30 for feed then again at 5/5.30 after which I put her back to sleep for a bit.  There have been times she wakes at 3, then would again at 6.
So what does this mean?

She's just doing three hours at night. So, I, personally, would wake her to feed every three hours during the day. You want the long stretches between feeds to happen at night. I hate doing it too.

It killed me to wake my DS from his naps but I agree with PP, you want to pack in as many calories as you can during the day so your LO can sleep more soundly at night.
