Toddler idea: Treasure box fun.x.
« on: February 16, 2014, 20:43:35 pm »
Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share this one. Sam and I made a treasure box sometime ago, just a gift box covered in his favourite stickers, but you could paint or cover in glitter etc. Since then we have been on a treasure hunt. Everything to him is like treasure lol. We collect shells on the beach, leaves and sticks in the wood, foreign coins...the list is endless. On a rainy day I hide little things I have and think he would like (cheap nick nacks) and hide them around the house for him to find. It's a simple idea, but he absolutely loves it. When bored I can say to him, lets go outside and have a treasure hunt, and even when we're shopping he is always on the look out keeping his mind busy and stopping him from getting bored (well it helps anyway  ;) And he loves to get it out and painstakingly look through it too.

Just a little thought for the school holidays.

x.

What a great idea! F always collects something that he likes, like stones, sticks, leaves, stickers, small toys... that he wants to keep and the forgets after one hour. I usually trash them away when he forgets (otherwise I would have an house full of little stones, sticks and leaves!). If we put them in a treasure box, then he will know where to find all the things that looked interesting to him, and maybe they keep him occupied another time.
Thanks for sharing! :-*

Super fun! I did something like this with Amelia....she was (and still is) really into rocks. It started with a lunchbox, and we graduated to a divided container with a handle. A few sticks have snuck in there as well, and several feathers.   :)

Just remembered I bought a couple if lock it type boxes last week for storing small toys. As it is half term here and we have a long day to fill we will start a treasure box too. We are off to nannys for a few days tomorrow so we can take his treasure with us. Thanks for the idea!

Awww, this so reminds me of when Allie was smaller and she was forever collecting bits of string and fuzz that were treasures to her.  :)  We always had to save them so carefully.

DD1 has a treasure box (her tinkerbell jewelry box) and we often take turns hiding treasure around the house and drawing treasure maps for the other person to follow so they can find the treasure :)  Lots of fun!

This is such a great idea. E's key carer at nursery has recommend we make one and they call them "chatter boxes" the idea being that they can get them down in quiet one and talk to the child about the memories in the box. So sweet. I must get started with E's this weekend.
