What do I do?

He is waking up every 30 minutes after 10:30pm feeding because he is rolling around like crazy.  He prefers to sleep on his side since I unswaddled him a few weeks ago.
I have been using the Merlin Sleep Suit.. but he is protesting it because he prefers to sleep on his side.

But when I let him sleep in sleep sack- he wakes every 30 minutes stuck on his tummy.
Ive tried to help him sleep on tummy but only last 15 minutes before he wakes and cries.

two weeks ago.. he amazed me with sleeping 10 hours straight. I did not have to go into his bedroom. I saw him on monitor wake and go back to sleep while wearing his merlin suit.

What do I do... Do I insist on the merlin suit still and struggle with him going down to sleep.
Or is there something else I can do?

I am at my wits end...

thank you for your time:

Hi hun, can you post your EASY for us to take a look at? My lo HATED the merlin suit so we just kept swaddling him. Are you giving him lots of tummy time to practice rolling during the day? Is he waking because you are rolling him back over or he's waking and can't get back on his side?

he is waking because he is stuck on tummy and cant roll back to side,

and have been adding solids to taste at 5pm... he is tasting more than eating- but that has been going on for weeks  even while he gave me 10 hour sttn.

thank you so much for your time

Hi hun,

We had this issue, around 4 months, and literally the only reason dd was waking was as you described, when she stirred she would sleepily roll onto belly, when there woke up, realised stuck & cried out as couldnt get back and would not settle on tummy.

I spent many nights going in several times and turning her back thinking she would cotton on & just stop rolling! But after about 2 weeks (and she still couldnt roll back) i ended up looking up something called safe-t-sleep, which is a strap which straps them in position (on back, or side) and they cant roll. Another bw reccomended.

I looked it up and bought a snoooze (i think its called) which is exact same thing as a safe-t-sleep. First night she went in it, she slept all night long & is 11 months now and is still in it. I plan to remove it when she can roll out of it due to her becoming stronger or when she can actually open it!

Hi hun it's early for solids. If you want to do solids I would do them in the AM only. If you do them in the PM any gastro issues he has are going to distrupt his night sleep.

Is he an independant sleeper? Meaning does he go to sleep with out your help at all? Also does he use a pacifier?

Thank you for replies:

He is not a independent sleeper.. we have been working on it with Shhh/Pat and sometimes it resorts to bouncing of the crib mattress to help him down all the way.

He never took a pacifier .. and he rarely uses his thumb/fingers to self soothe.

I have been 'rushing' to him as soon as I hear him cry... I do think I need to give him a few minutes to at least try to soothe himself.

But its sooo hard.

Hi hun, i think you may want to think about committing 100% to ST. Have you tried just starting with Shush/Pat and taking it from there? Also what about the solids can you stop them for now? He's young anyway for them and doesn't need them so by removing them all together you can at least rule that out as a contributor to the issue.

I will eliminate the solids to ensure that is not the culprit!

I will commit to 100% ST and give him time to self soothe or start learning.

I think he is old enough to learn - right?
and as long as I am there to support him thru it.. well be better on the other side of all this!

I will try it tonight. .. I actually have been during naps today and letting him get uncomfortable ... I know he is just asking for me to rock him and help him sleep when hes tired.

thank you sooo much

Hi Hun, he's definitely old enough. As long as you know discomfort is not an issue I would ST for sure. Have you looked over the links for shush/pat etc?
