Sleep nightmare
« on: February 19, 2014, 20:30:20 pm »
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anybody has any tips for my dd's sleep issues at the mo. She is 19 months(16 months corrected as she was 12 weeks prem).
She has  been  pretty good sleep wise apart from the odd blip.
Routine usually is
Wu 6-7
S 12.30-2-30 ish
Bedtime 7
No night wakings

However now is
Wu 5-5.30
S 12-2
Bedtime 7

Night wakings from 12am till 2 sometimes for the whole 2 hours sometimes settles in an hour usually crying

Wu at 5 ish.

She only has 4 teeth so have been medicating prior to bed with nurofen and then calpol when she wakes in the night(loads of teething signs but no new teeth yet). Both of us work full time and we are exhausted. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

There could be a few different things at play, and it might take a bit of detective work to figure it out! Here are my thoughts on the options:
1. Teeth. Really really horrible for us around this point and we just had to ride it out. However, giving meds in her sleep might help?
2. Please bear in mind here that my guy is low sleep needs, but at that age he was on a 10hour night and 2 hour nap. It's possible that the nap is cutting into her night sleep and you could look at cutting it down.
3. Even with option 2, she could be overtired from all her disturbed nights. You could try an early bedtime to get her caught up before you start to make any routine changes.

Hth!

Thank you for your reply. Last night we put her down to sleep at 6.45. No night wakings but awake for the day at 5.30 :(. We are going to try again for the same time tonight to rule out over tired and then next week reevaluate.  ::)

Today, after a 5.30 am wake up dd had a massive tantrum meltdown at 11.15am. I turned the tv off and held her in my arms and she fell asleep. I have just put her down. Think I can quite safely say she is over tired. I will have to see how long she sleeps for and plan the afternoon from there. Can't quite win at the mo  ???.
