Unsettled in early morning hours
« on: February 20, 2014, 09:37:00 am »
I'm still struggling with Medi's nights :(. She'll be five months old in a few days time. She is ebf and still has two night feeds (no df as she never woke enough to take much).  The first feed is about midnight and she will suckle slowly, go back to sleep, and wakes three hours after I put her down. I think this waking is a bit of a habit and I intend to try to push it a bit later.  The second feed is the problem. She's hungry because the first feed wasn't very good, but she doesn't go back to sleep properly. Either she's awake for two hours or she goes back to sleep for 45 minutes, poops, and is then wide awake.  She doesn't cry at first. She's just awake, and playing. Eventually she either goes back to sleep on her own, or she will cry and I'll pat her back to sleep.

She naps well and puts herself to sleep no problem.  Her naps are a bit all over the place at the moment, some days it's 2 x 90 minutes ( I wake her at 90 minutes) or maybe 1x90, 1x60, and 1x30 minutes. I suspect within the next week-10 days she will be properly on two naps.

It's really getting me down. Like seriously getting me down to the point that I don't really want to be around her some days :'(.

Oh hun, big hugs. Can you post your EASY?  Since DF's don't work, she could be hungry for that 12 feeding?  but if she's not taking a full feed I would try and resettle with out feeding and see what happens?

Could you try cluster feeding before bed if the DF doesn't work and maybe that way extend her out a bit?

I normally do, but last night was Enfys swimming lesson (4 pm, I fed her at the pool) and I had barn chores when we got home.

She slept from 18:50 till 23:50; I resettled her and she woke up at 1:50 so I fed her. But it's 5:30 and she's been awake for the last ten minutes or so :(.

And she never went back to sleep. I couldn't put her for her nap until I took Enfys to school at 8. She slept for ten minutes, and that was it. Finally I took her out in the carrier and she did sleep for 40 minutes. Going to be a long day :(.

She's ill :(. That's it. She's had diarrhea all morning, not wanting to nurse and very pale.  Poor dab :'(

Yeah, it explains today.  But not the last month!!  I dread to think what tonight will bring, she's so hard to settle if I have to change her in the night. But maybe tonight we will get lots of practise and it won't bother her so much ;)

I'll be back in a couple of days when she's feeling better :)

She's back to normal now and last night was another shocker. I know she was ot, she only had 2 x 30 minute cat naps in the pm since we were at a family get together. She was in bed asleep at 7, woke for food at 23:00 and 3:00 and woke again at 5:20. She was so sleepy at 3, I thought she might be hungry ( well actually I was hoping she'd just have a little feed and fall asleep) but she pooped. :(. So I did a bit of apop and got her back to sleep from about 6 till 7.
She's in a strange place routine wise; 3 naps are too many unless two are very short, and two naps makes the day too short.
I just don't know what to do anymore.

Well last night it was feeds at 23:30 and 3:30. At 3:30 she was so sleepy she didn't take much, then woke straight away when I put her down. Again, I had to feed her a second time but it was 5 am before she went back to sleep. She's not herself today at all, crying a lot, and her first nap was 30 minutes, then 20 minutes of screaming while I tried unsuccessfully to get her back to sleep. Down now for a second nap.

Sounds like discomfort to me? Liam was up at 1am yesterday with a quick settle but last night up at 3:45. Could not get him back to sleep. I feel your pain.

Up this morning at 4:50. It's 5:45, I've fed her and put her in her cot and she's in there messing around. Idk. Yesterday she was very whingy and spitty. I had started her about four days ago on a small amount of solids (rice cereal and then sweet potato) but I've stopped now. She's driving me nuts :(.
