Almost 4 month old wakes 3-4 times h
« on: February 22, 2014, 19:19:38 pm »
My daughter will be 4 months on the 27th. She weighs 11lbs. She was born at 5.5lbs so has grown very well. My question is should she still be waking up 3-4 Times at night to feed? I put her down to sleep by 7-7.30pm. She wakes around 11pm, 1.30am, 4am and then up for the day around 7am. She catnaps through the day. Usually 4-5 naps of 45 mins max. I feed her breast milk on a bottle since I exclusively pump. Should I start formula at night to get her to sleep longer? My husband and I tried the cry it out method last night but she cried for 45 mins with no end in sight and I ended up feeding her anyways. I need help!

Hi, and welcome.
Tracy Hogg, the Baby Whisperer didn't believe in CIO or cc since it breaks the bond of trust with your lo and promoted gentler ways of getting babies to sleep.  There are other solutions xx.
Have you read any of the books?  Are you familiar with the Easy concept? How does your lo fall asleep - can she fall asleep by herself?
She was quite small at birth, was she premature?  She might be younger than her calendar age. Four months is a tricky age. There can be a big growth spurt, and babies change their sleeping patterns so they go more often from deep to light sleep and can start to wake more often.  Also if her naps aren't great that will affect her nights as well. Can you post your typical day, like this
Wake up 7 am
Eat 7:15 am
Activity
Sleep 8:30-9:15
Etc...

Also, have a look at the FAQ sections in the easy and the sleep boards, there's tons of useful stuff there.

Ok, so she's feeding about every 2-2.5 hours in the day, awake for about an hour and a half, an napping 35-40 minutes at a time. She should be stretching out her feeds to about every three hours at least. She may not be able to handle much more than that since she's still pretty small. And her awake time probably needs to be increased slightly as well, maybe 10-15 minutes, to see if that helps lengthen her naps. There's a good section in BWSAYP about this.
What do you think?

I really try to stretch her feeds to 3 hours but it is extremely difficult. She only drinks 3.5 oz max at any one feed...that could be why she gets hungry sooner....what is bwsayp?

She'll get there. A little distraction helps. A change of scenery for five minutes perhaps?
