Schedule for 21 month old?
« on: February 28, 2014, 20:10:06 pm »
Ugh, DD is at it again. We are so confused by her sleep and schedule, and I just never know if I'm expecting too much sleep from her or not letting her have enough? Ivs been trolling the "What does your toddler's day look like?" and it just seems like everyone has a much shorter schedule than us. DD is low to high sleep needs, but we are still getting NWs and/or EWs with lots of >10 hour nights. Our basic schedule is:

WU: 6:15
Nap: 12:30-2:30
BT: 7:30 (asleep at 8:10)

WU: 5:30
Nap: 12:30-2:30
Sleep: 7:45 (asleep)
NW 4-5 (coughing )

WU: 7:15
Nap: 1:35-3:05 (capped)
Bed: ??? Normally, I would aim for 8:15 asleep. Is that too late?

I'm just confused. I don't know if I should be capping her nap or putting her to bed earlier? Or not capping and putting her to bed earlier/later? I know I should KNOW her by now, but I've never quite gotten this down. Now I'm worried that instead of being UT, she's actually OT. Aahhh, any insights? What should I be expecting from her?

Thank you!

Hugs these lo's like to keep us in our toes!
My LO is 21 months and is having EW spell on and off but our day looks like this
WU 6
Nap 12.30-2/2.30
BT 7.15

I'm sticking with set naps and BT and mostly get no NW just the odd 5.30 WU but stay in his bedroom till 6.15
My rule of thumb is 13 hour day on 1.5-2 hour nap and 12.5 hour day on bad nap.x

Thanks so much, Haribo. I try to do that, but if her nap goes long, sometimes her day is 14 hours. I try not to let her sleep longer than 2 hours, though!

It's nice to have some kind of guideline...even if it will change next week! :)

We sometimes have a long day I'm just of the opinion that so much is going on in there little brains right now it messes up sleep. I just try and stay consistant with routine as much as possible x

Okay, I thought things were improving, but...the last two nights, she has woken up at 1:15/1:30 and stayed up until 3/3:30. Talking, yelling, kicking...I go in right away and give her meds and water (she's teething), but she still stays up for about 2 hours. Her yelling isn't the "I need you" yelling, but more the listening to herself make noise? And she'll talk and talk and sit and stand and kick and just not sleep! It's driving me insane. Our schedule the last 5 days or so has been the same:

Wake: 7
Nap: 1-2:30 (yesterday was 1:15-3)
BT: 8, asleep by 8:20
The last 2 nights have been NWs from 1-3ish. Before that, maybe one at 4 or so and meds would get her right back down.

Any thoughts? She's 21 months and pretty LSNs, but 9 hours at night and 1.5 during the day is WAY low....

TIA!!

Your LO is a slightly older than R but we have seen a dramatic drop in sleep requirements, he was doing generally 7-6.30 with a lovely 2 hr nap from 1-3 before January, but since his sleep needs seem to be reducing! The last few days we're getting anywhere between 12/12.5 hrs in 24. He's been speaking quite well since 14 months, however i've noticed it's now more conversational IYKWIM so cute, but it's exhausting at night. He's been like a newborn waking up to 4 times during the night and then waking at 5 to start the day  :( The only thing I have found that extends our nights is limiting day sleep. It was nursery yesterday so out of my hands, but he slept 12.30-1.30 (woke himself) I did BT at 7.20 and for the first time in ages he was asleep by 7.30, woke at 6.15 this morning!!! It was so nice to get a full nights sleep. My plan on home days is 1-2.30 (capped) and BT at 7.30 see how it goes? I have been thinking he's OT so was doing EBT and I think it just made things worse as he was then EMW, you get so worried about OT that you forget they are growing up and I think they can cope so much better now, more interested in the world and all its exciting things to sleep!

Thanks for the reply, Johnnyha65 :). I definitely agree that they are constantly changing and it's hard to keep up! I just don't think that she's at the point yet that 9 hours at night and 1.5 during the day is enough?? Honestly, I think she might just be going through something and I have to wait it out. It's soooo exhausting, though. She chats forever at BT (and does the mad yelling), but it's these MOTN long wake ups that are really killer. I think she's actually pretty exhausted, but I'm afraid we might just have to ride it out. We're heading on vacation on Saturday for a week, so there is almost no point in doing much now! It'll all be a wreck while we're gone, anyway!!

I agree hun that 9 hours isn't enough with 1.5 nap. I think that it's poss developmental, there is huge language explosion at this age.
I'd give it a week or so and ride it out, like u say with vacation there is no point until your back x
