Hi

my baby is 6 months old no solids yet. She is tongue tied (clipped twice) and in those six months I have been breastfeeding her, fed with medela sns and with syringe and now bottle feeding her (Dr brown). When she eats she looks fussy and makes lot of noises. She does not want to finish bottles or to drink most of the times so I mostly do ESA. There is a way to make bottle feeding easier or more appealing to her? She loved to eat with syringe but she does not like it with bottle, she went first on medela calma teat. I exclusively pump for her. Can it be that she cannot properly latch on the bottle?

This is how her schedule looks like approximately:
4.00 am 210 ml
9.30/10.00  am - 80 -180 ml (half while asleep)
12,30 - 13,30 - 210 ml (half while asleep)
16,30 - 17,00 pm - 210 ml (half while asleep)
20,15 - 21,00 pm - 140 - 210 ml

She drinks very fast at the beginning and cries after 60 80ml.She was checked for reflux but she does not have. She had but a lot of air in her stomach.

What flow teat do you have her on? Have you tried a faster teat? Crying after a few oz can be because the flow is too slow if reflux has been rules our.

Hi,

she is already in number 3. It is like if she could not get a good latch.
She got an echo and they observed reflux but it was not hurting her.

There is any other feeding method that I could try? I tried with medela special needs today but she did not like it.

Has the tie healed back over or is her tongue free now? It could cause her not to be latching properly, my two have severe ties and couldn't breastfeed but did ok on a bottle (not clipped).

She got an echo and they observed reflux but it was not hurting her.

How do they know this? An echo won't tell if the reflux is causing pain. The fact that she is known to be refluxing and isn't feeding well would indicate that it is an issue for her. I have two refluxers, both fed poorly before they were medicated, when meds needed increasing feeding issues let us know. Drinking 60-80ml then not wanting more and feeding better when sleepy are very common with un-controlled reflux, I would go and see the Dr again and ask about a med trial.

Hi,

during echo, they moved her, as she did not compain, they told me not to worry about reflux. Should I ask for a med trial to see a difference? Apart from bottle time, she does not complain. Could still be reflux?
She did have her tongue released twice but still doing strange clicks when bottle feeding, not sure if she really knows how to drink from a bottle efficiently.

The way she is feeding doesn't sound right, so even if it isn't reflux, I would still take her back and see the Dr again. Maybe take a video of how she feeds on the phone and show the Dr.

Have you tried different shaped teats to see if that makes a difference?

Hi,

yes I have tried Tommee Tippee bottles, Avent, Medela Calma and Dr. Brown narrow and wide necks. What I have not tried is the latex nipples, maybe I should give them a try? I have also not tried any shaped nipple, maybe also should give a try.
Good idea to make a video. I will do.

Hi,

just went to the GI and she saw no point for meds against reflux. For her it is easy, just give baby what she wants, does not matter that is 1 or 2 oz after 4 hours...
I am feeling a little depressed. My baby is almost seven months, I hope it is a just a matter of time to see an improvement.
