5 month old won't swallow solids
« on: March 04, 2014, 16:13:29 pm »
I know it takes time for babies to figure out how to swallow solids, but it has been 2 weeks and my daughter still spits out more than the takes in.  I have tried rice cereal, carrots and pear.  Sometimes i giver her the paci with food in her mouth so that it goes down.  I need her to take solids b/c she has reflux and the doc says it will help if there is weight in her stomach.  Any tips??

How many weeks old is she? It could be that she just isn't physically ready for solids yet, if she still has the tongue thrust reflex then you may need to wait a couple of weeks and try again.

Solids may make the reflux worse rather than better too - they made my son's reflux worse, but did help my daughter a bit. Is she on medication for the reflux? I found with my DD that although small amounts of cereal helped keep the milk in a bit she didn't actually eat any better until she was on meds too.

Yes, she started prevacid a week ago but it hasn't helped with the solids...
