OUCH!
« on: March 14, 2014, 09:36:09 am »
For the past week, Joey fed every 1-1.5 hours in the day and every 2-2.5 at night. Napped for 10 minutes or so all day long. He was genuinely hungry every time and has doubled his birth weight, plus went up two clothes sizes. Completely skipped 0-3 months clothes.  ::)

Now he is back to just one NF and 3-4 hour stretches in the day and taking two monster naps.
And now my boobs are in hell! I expressed so much last night, but they are still lumpy and sore and it feels as if there is a hot, inflamed banana in my left breast. Feeding, pumping, heat or cold won't make the banana go away!

Blimey! Take care of yourself, hope it passes soon - but if it doesn't make sure you get to the docs in time!

Hugs steff

I'd try and keeping pumping  to a minimum if you can otherwise the milk production will keep up and hopefully things will settle in a day or two.

Massaging in the shower helped me. But please keep an eye for things not settling just in case mastitis sets in.

Agreed! Ouch!  When I had a plugged duct I would use heat before feeding then line my baby's jaw pointing at the area. Depending on where it is it can  be an awkward nursing position and you may have to get creative. Massage the "banana" after your baby is feeds and your breast isn't so full.

Avoid constricting bras and shirts.

As Shiv said - Try not to pump - it's just encouraging milk more supply.

And go to the doc if it doesn't clear up in a day or so.

Hugs!

When I had a plugged duct I would use heat before feeding then line my baby's jaw pointing at the area.

This can work really well, especially if you 'dangle' to use gravity.  So lie him on the bed, for example, and then feed over the top of him, dangling the breast so his jaw points at the sore part.  Not terribly comfortable, but gravity is great :)

Also the warm before and cold afterwards and only hand express to comfortable rather than pumping to empty.  If it's sore and you're not contraindicated (asthmatic, stomach ulcers etc) you can take some ibuprofen.

Keep an eye and if you start with a fever/shivers, get yourself to the GP.

Went for a long bath with him and then did the dangle and the heat thing.

The banana has shrunk considerably!

Thank you so much  :-*

Did it again tonight, dangled the boob on top of him (seems rude, in a way) with his jaw pointing at banana.

Banana is mush now. Gone for good.

Oh the joys
