Baby Hawk is waking up with no consistancy
« on: March 24, 2014, 11:33:18 am »
I'll try and be as brief as possible.

Up until about 5 months, baby Hawk was a miserable baby with lots of issues. A small snapshot: He was colic and we had him on acid reflux medication, probiotics, and he actually seemed to reject mama's milk, so we finally found that he could keep down Organic Soy.

Now he's a happy smiley kid growing like a weed. He's 7 months, 20lbs and ready to skip crawling and walk any day now.

I'll admit to using a pacifier in the beginning, it's the only way he and especially his older sister could get sleep on school nights.

Here's his sched now.

7AM- 6oz bottle
8AM - Breakfast
9AM - Sleep

11AM - 4oz bottle
12PM - Lunch
1PM - Sleep

2:30PM - 4oz bottle
3:30PM - Eat
5:30 - Sleep

7PM - 4oz bottle
7:30 - bath and bed.

11PM - Dream Feed

From 1AM till 6AM he will wake up quite a few times- he will go back to sleep eventually, but will belt out crying for quite a while. I usually wait around 5-10min before I go in - but again, he sleeps right next door to older sis and we want to keep her (an amazing EASY trained child) sleeping so she's not a mess at school.

He's definitely teething right now, but this has been happening for a while sans those little gum crushers.

Any advice?

Hi hun I"m thinking hunger possibly? Based on your oz's he's only drinking 18oz during day is this correct is it soy formula or just straight soy milk? Secondly has he been low A times usually? He's on the lower end of A times for a 7month old which is just fine as it ranges from 2-3 hrs but I'm just curious. When he wakes at night how are you resettling him? Does he still use a paci? Can he replug himself? Does he sleep from 9-11 for his first nap? 1-2:30 for his second and how long for his third nap?

He sleeps at those times between feedings so

he sleeps 9 to 11

and

1 to 2:30

and then 5:30 to 7.

What should his shed be now?

Oh, sorry about that. Sleep deprived!

He drinks organic soy formula.

Low A times? He's up and atom and playing after he eats. He's quite active.

Yup. I put his pacifier in. He's a pro at taking it out but can't plug himself yet.

Was that all the q's?

Hi, I think his naps are the problem.  He is getting a LOT of day sleep and probably isn't tired enough to stay asleep at night. Most babes are on 2 solid naps by 7 months and he is still asking 3 long ones.  I am amazed that he sleeps 5:30-7 and then goes to bed at 7:30!!  I would either shorten that last nap to just a CN, or work towards dropping it completely.

I agree with Emma - he may not be tired enough. Could also be that paci is a problem as well if he can't replug himself.

If he is low A times I would at least cut taht CN to 30 min no longer and see if that solves your problem. I would start by stretching that first A time 15min or so and the next one 15min or so and see if you still get long naps. Secondly you've got two options for the paci. Is he waking because it falls out and then can't replug it? If so it's a prop and you'll ether need to teach him out to replug or wean it or you'll just keep going in to replug it. If he's just waking and then can't get back to sleep because he's not tired enough and the paci has nothing to do with it than stretching out the A times and cutting that CN should help the waking. Here is a link to some typical EASY's for his age group

CN is cat-nap?

We've tried, but he can't make it that far. He goes bonkers :)

And...should I be cutting his dream feed? Could I be disturbing a potentially long sleep?

He's sleep till 6am now, but still waking up. I'm not going into to give him his paci. He will yell for a while (5 minutes or so), but pass out.

The book hammers the DF concept - and it worked for my daughter - but this guy isn't so adaptive.
