I thought each night would be steadily better than the last but in the 5 nights since dummy-geddon and pu/pd we still have 3-4 wakings. I guess it's routine issues.

Problem I have is DS aged 7 months takes short naps and the school run also gets in the way. Am I doomed until he goes to 1 nap?

I've tried 2 longer naps with extension or three shorter nap and neither seems any better.

Yday and day before we tried 2 naps:

A 5.30-6
S on mon did 8.30-9.25 in carseat. Yday did 9-10.30 with a 25 min pu/pd as I transferred him from carseat to cot
S on mon did 12.25-1.55 extended with tummy rub
And white noise. Yday did 1.45-2.50 by driving about before picking up DD at 3.
Bed 6-6.30

Last night he woke:
Usual Squawk 45 mins after falling asleep white
Noise and rub tummy.
Pu/pd at 8.30 for 15 mins
Fed 12.50
Woke 3.30 White noise and tummy rub
Woke 4.30 fed, Whitenoise
A 5.45

The prev nights were all 3 wakes.

My alternative easy which I can do is

A 5.30-6
S carseat 8.30-9 for 30-45 mind
S 11.30 in cot for up to 1hr 45 if I extend
S catnap around 4 in cot

He's never slept past 45 mins without my help, maybe once?

He's EBF. Times a bit random but never fed to sleep.

Solids around 7 (not that hungry), 11 and 4.30. Brought dinner back from 5.30-4/4.30

Does he fall asleep on his own? I found when we weaned the swaddle and dummy although things got better he still woke in the night and needed help going back to sleep, first time we jad an amazing night was the first day he fell asleep on his own for all day naps.

He falls asleep on his own as a result of pu/pd or me with him saying its ok. without that only once or twice has he resettled without that or turning up white noise. Wonder if white noise is a prop?

Sounds like he still needs your presence to fall asleep, so u arent able to just put him in the cot calm him and he would go to sleep without u standing by his cot or doing pu/pd?

I'm standing there for him speaking softly. I see what you're saying.

I was expecting fewer night wakings by now.

I guess I need to sit back a bit more and more when soothing him?

We were in the same boat we mastered shush/ pat to the point where it would be effortless to put him to sleep, but when he woke in the night he needed that little bit of shush pat, so we had to take the next step and give him the opportunity to fall asleep himself. Because we were doing shush pat if he cried i would shush pat him until calm and walk away from the cot and would only shush pat if he got really upset, it did take a lot of going back and forth the first day. Hopefully soneone can advise you on how to proceed with pu/pd

I wonder if I need to pick between shh pat and pu/pd. rather than both.

If i remember rightly , pu/pd was always the last resort but you always aimed to settle LO without picking up with shush/pat if possible. When we started ST we wanted to do pu/pd but really we never had to! Although first day took ages to settle him and i felt like i was going to pass out from all the shushing he always settled. Im sure one of the mods will cone along and suggest the best way to proceed

Florena is giving you great advice :-* thank you!
I agree, if you are still in the room when he falls asleep, you've not yet achieved independent sleep so I would definitely work on intervening as little as you can.

Perhaps I say my comfort phrases from a foot further back each day so I'm not so near.

Yeh, remember that your goal is to be out of the room before he falls asleep. So at night you could just say it from your bed, don't even get up. In the daytime and at bedtime, only stick around until he's calm, then take a step away... then another... then another...

I can defo do that for naps. Today both naps were out and about but will try to avoid that again this week or I can't work on it.

He's jn my room at night which makes it harder but I guess if I do it for naps and bedtime that might be enough. I'm loathe to move him to his own room until he wakes twice a night or less. But being in with me might be the problem I guess - could be a circular problem. Ill clear the stinky cold I have then tackle the own room thing I think...

It could well be a circular problem. If he is sleeping independently for naps and at bedtime, you should b e able to just reassure him with your voice without getting out of bed. But, if you have to get out, then what's the difference if it's in your room or going to his room?

I used only my voice last night I didn't touch him apart from one pu/pd. but i had to speak from quite near where i think he cd see me on most occasions. so thats something to work on. he woke lots and I struggled to get back to sleep each time :( bed at 6.30, woke 7.30, 9.30, 12 (fed), 2.30, 3.30 (fed) up at 5.10. I'm soooo tired.
