The other thing about having him int he same room as you, are you sure you are giving him a good chance to see if he will self soothe? He may be used to needing reassurance every time he has a little mantra cry in the middle of the night.

How long do you think I shd b leaving it? I try to wait and if it starts to ramp up a bit rather than settle I say my comfort phrase but saying it from my bed didnt seem good enough. So I need to work on saying it further away gradually!

Just something that ive found, i slept in oskars room when we moved him out of his moses basket into the cotbed, it was terrible, i was disturbing him and he was disturbing me, he would grunt and sometimes cry out for half a minute or so and i would be up straight away shushing him, i moved back into the bedroom and we just left both doors open, although I would still get up ridiculous amount of times to start with i actually only heard him when he was properly crying. My other half on the other hand heard every peep for the first few days and used to get up and run into the other room and by the time he got there oskar was actually settled himself! Hehe so he ended up getting up unnecessarily.
We are at grandparents at the moment and although the bedroom is big, even in good nights i wake up loads just because he makes noises in rhe night, last noght he cried for 30 seconds or so in his sleep and just webt back to sleep, he didnt need me but i woke up of course. I also found that until we achieved independent sleep during naps there was no chance of Oskar settling himself in the night. You LO just sounds so much like what we went through, although after recent illness we are tryin to get back on track.

Bit of progress - last nap he didnt cry as soon asi put him down! He was playing a bit and my presence not helping so I hid. After 15 mins he got a bit upset and I spoke to him from my hiding place. I did eventually come back into view but only at the v end. He's had 3 short naps today will be interesting to see the result. Also will have to go to bed later more like 6.45-7 due to DDs ballet.

It will get better, although we have achieved independent sleep we are battling 40 minute naps. i also found that it is so much easier to get them to self soothe when the routine is right, LO is just over 5 minth and we are on 2.30 A time, he was poorly for over a week and obviously in that week lots changed. He shows signs of tiredeness at 2 hours but easily distracted and lasts for another 30 minutes. I tried puttibg him down at 2 hours and although he falls asleep its with a battle and he is desperately tryin to suck on his fingers and his sleep is very disturbed at 2.30 although he cries a little when i shush pat him before puttibg into the cot he settled pretty much straight away in the cot. I can only hope it gets better as the time passes as we only started doing the longer A time yesterday.

I wonder if he's having a growth spurt. He's pretty hungry atm. I've fed him twice a night last 5 nights when he woke then woke again an hour later and he seemed up for it and has fed lots - milk and food - in the day too. He has  a red cheek so think he's also teething.

He was showing tired signs quite early today prob from the 5am start and short naps. I went with it. He did -

Last night:
Bed 7pm (coughed awake and resettled 7.30, then usual wake up 7.45 easily shhed)
10.30pm fed
12.30 shhed.
2.30 fed.
v v brief wake around 3 and white noise cranked up immed sent him back off.
Up for the day 5am.

Today
A 5am
S 8.30-9.10 carseat school run
S 11.30-12.10 in cot. happy to be put down and me hide but gradually got grumpy and my voice without seeing me didn't work. did 2 pu/pd but it made him worse. then sat nearer and he went off quickly.
S 2.20-3.00 carseat school run

Off to bed soon. I for one can hardly keep my eyes open!

Last night was good!!!!!

He didnt wake after usual 45 mins at bedtime.
His first wake was 12.45! Fed him.
Woke again 4am. Had been trying to go 4 hrs but as it was nearly 4 hrs and 4am is v dodgy for EWs for us I fed him.
Got up at 5am which is currently normal and I don't mind after a good night.

2 NWs only! 8 days ago he woke every hour for dummy. Feel pleased of the change. I know it was only one night tho. Really hope we can recreate it. Perhaps 3 short naps suits him??!

Thats brilliant, he will get the hang of it! Once the nights started getting better I found that it didnt matter so much how good or bad were daytime naps, he would still only wake twice to eat.

After a bunch of bad nights had another good one last night.

No white noise!!!! He was v tired at bed and didn't need it as was asleep v quickly.

Slept 6.40-5.30
Woke 10 and 3.30 for milk.
He did wake at 7.30pm but self settled. He also chilled quietly from 5.30-5.50.

Returning to update!

I moved Hugh into his own room a couple of nights ago and also started putting a couple of blankets on him (in addition to encouraging self settling and still no dummy). Last two nights been much better. Also some longer naps the past week!

Last night:

Bed 7, woke 7.45 but self settled after few mins
Woke 10, self settled v quickly
Woke 1, I fed him
Woke 4 (night before i held off feeding at this time but he was hungry) fed him. Ssh pat after half hour as he struggled to resettle due to OH getting up early. Back to sleep around 5.
Up at 6.

This is a huge improvement. Thanks to this forum esp Anna - your advice and support had really helped!
