Longer nap leads to short night n EW or due to teething.
« on: March 26, 2014, 06:32:46 am »
Okie my dd  15mth now and is currently teething molar. Taking the first molar forever to cut through. I can feel the edges about to cut soon. Here is the thing, she has been on a routine n wu between0600-0645 more 0620. But this week she has been waking up between 0515-0600. Sometimes I go I. And treat it as NW and gave her some teething meds and she fell back asleep till 0730 I have to wake her up.
Her easy now is

Wu 0530/0545 out of bed at 0645
Nap 1215/1230-1430 capped at 2hr
Bedtime 1915/1930

The thing is if she has nap over 2hr she has NW and if nap less than 1.5hr she does 11.5 night anything more is 10.5/10.75 hr.
Prior to this she has always down 1.5-2 hr nap and 11-11.5hr night
Now is 1.45/2 hr then 10.5 hr night .
She will cry out at 5 ish then i sing her a lullably then she will lie still in bed sucking her cloth till I pick her up at 0645
What should I do? Is EW due to teething or nap length related. I am not sure if I should cut the nap or leave it and capped it at 2hr n ride out EW till the first molar cuts through.

Pls advice. Thank you very much.

Hi there!

I'd hang on in there until that molar cuts through. IME, 2h is not an excessive nap at this age. It may well be teeth causing the EW. Have you tried DM around 3am? Painful I know to set the alarm for this time. BUT  I have found it to be effective - might be worth a shot?

My only observation re: your day is if WU is at 5.30/45 and she doesn't go back to sleep, then 9.15/30 is quite a long day (14hours). I would stick to a 13h day max to try and minimise the possibility of your LO getting OT, which will perpetuate your EW problems.

What do you think?

Hi Hena thanks for your reply. I tried to put to bed early but she didnt fall asleep till 1915/1930. With that bed time she is in bed by 1850 but she just lie still sucking her cloth n finally fall asleep at 1930.

Yesterday she wu 0545. I didn't get her out till 0645
Nap 1230-1400 then woke up whined for abit then back to sleep I woke her up at 1440
Bedtime put down 1850 didn't sleep till 1930.
Nw 0350 crying so u gave Panadol then back to sleep 30mins later till 0700 this am.

The thing is she wouldnt let me dream meds her. She will wake up. I m scared that it would take her ages to go back to sleep.

I tend to use a syringe in the night for meds with R and don't actually get her up yk? I have a dim light on so I can see what I am doing but R stirs, is not completely fast asleep, will sometimes even say good night again. I think the trick is not to fully wake them
