2 year old dropped nap
« on: April 03, 2014, 23:17:17 pm »
Hi I have a 2 year old dd who gave up her 2 hour nap from one day to the next. I had a baby and a few days later, she refused her nap and has consistently refused it since. She was previously having a 1 1/2-2 hr nap and a 13 hour night. Now she just about does a 12 hour night. She has always been on a late schedule, bed at 8 and up at 9 but now she refuses to go to sleep till about 9 or even 10 on most nights unless she has fallen asleep already out of exhaustion. She definitely should not be doing a full day at the age of just 24 months and I can see this because she is having big temper tantrums in the afternoon and sometimes just falls asleep in the early evening sitting or reading or even eating. How can I get her to take a nap? I have tried bribing but she is not interested in day time sleep anymore. Help please!

No advice as we are going through the same thing, so dropping off big hugs. I know how you feel, one day dd just said no when we asked her if it was time to nap, when she used to trot off happily to bed! Sooooo my dd only naps twice a week on her 2 days at daycare (peer pressure gets her to nap there I guess!)... or has a cn in the car of an afternoon, she is too tired to stay awake and is a grumpy mess when the car stops (10-15min nap). She is lsn so now gets probably the same amount of sleep per 24hrs as we brought bt back to 6.15/6.30pm when it was 7pm. Do you think an earlier bedtime would suit your lo? We had a few nights of bt refusals but EVERYTHING is no no no at the moment! I miss her nap!

Hey ladies!

We went through a stage of this when R was this age. I knew she still needed a nap, UT was obvious. So I insisted. I ended up doing Wi/WO until she gave in. On the occasions she didn't nap, I did EBT at 6pm.

What did you day look like before the nap refusal came along?

Not had experience of this, but do you think the new baby might be having an effect?

DS was similar and I resorted to putting a DVD on after lunch every day. If he needed to nap, he'd fall asleep watching (and having a cuddle), and if not, at least he rested. He was an active little thing and is very spirited, and it had impact on his independent sleep at night.
