why is LO so tired in the morning?
« on: April 05, 2014, 13:52:27 pm »
Hiya, i have another thread where I've had some great help with finding a good routine, and were finally getting there i think but just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why LO is so tired in the morning. Hes sleeping the best hes ever slept and we've had a couple of night where hes STTN but now he is absolutely shattered in the mornings. Hes 13months and our day atm is

Wu 6:30-7
s 10 (1hr)
s 2 (1.5hr)
BT 7

he is so grumpy and just wants to go down by 8:30-9 and we really have to push him to get to 10am

we are also trying to push this nap out but he just cant do it bless him

any ideas

Sometimes my lo would get this way when going through a GS or right before getting sick. He seems to be sleeping ok at night right now nw's? If he's nw that could cause the tireness in the morning. Eventually you'll just need to push through the OT in the am by change of scenery etc.  At this age we were capping his AM nap to 30min to combat nw's. Not that you need to do that at all if he's sttn. But you're obviously in the 2-1 at this point. :)

Sorry what is GS? Hes STTN for 3 nights now, although last night he was a bit OT and woke a couple of times before midnight but just went back to sleep by himself, pretty much straight away, does that still count as NW?

we did have his first nap at 9-9:30 but he was waking at 5:30-6am sometimes earlier and this was capped for 30 mins then he was going for 2nd nap at 12 and was OT by then then EEBT leading to EW etc etc. But we've got WU and BT at a good time for us so really happy with that just not sure where we go from here if he is already so tired in the mornings, u no?

times also seem so short to me, he used to do 4 sometimes 5 hours easy but then he got poorly and just hasn't gotten any better.

we've just done aaaaages of GW as we had AP and he was reliant on us going in but finally got this sorted.
its been a long old 13 months with this little man lol x

Sorry, GS is growth spurt.  That's great he was able to ss. I wouldn't necessarily if he went right back to sleep himself.  He's just getting used to the longer A times it will pass. My LO went through the same thing and evnetually he just grew into the A times and got used to it. I hear you on the sleeping issues. My LO didn't take a good nap with out having to be resettled until almost 14 months. :)

I would just push through the tired signs with a change of scenery to see if that helps. Maybe give a snack and take a walk outside or set up a good athletic activity in the house for a bit.  If he's otherwise sleeping well and not waking up early than you are fine. If you see the wakeups start creeping earlier than push his morning A time more or start capping that morning nap further. Just remember when you cap the morning nap at say less than a full sleep cycle like a 30min to reduce the A time after so he's not OT for his second nap.  We always capped his PM Nap not his AM nap because he was so grumpy in the Mornings so we stretched his A time in the AM and capped the PM nap. But my LO was on one nap almost by 14 months.

Happy Thoughts for more SSTN.

Thank you, I'll give the going for a walk outside a go, as u only have to mention shoes and hes at the shoe rack getting them out lol!

oh yeah of course growth spurt lol, he could be, hes eating like a machine atm!

out of interest, how much would u reduce 2nd A time if we capped his morning nap at 30 mins? I need to get the nap before school pick up at 2:50 during this holiday lol x

Honestly it's up to you. I wouldn't jump to capping it as if he's still sleeping ok with the 1hr. Every little one is different. Mine could do a full A after a 45min nap but I would cut it to mayb 2.5-3hrs on a 30min nap.

check out this link.

Hiya, im a bit confused today. Ds had been sleeping brilliantly over last few days, and naps were good etc etc but last night he refused to go to bed until 8:30pm and he woke at 6:15am with 1 NW and now hes refusing to nap, we've been trying since 9:30 as he was up earlier. Any ideas? Hes screaming blue murder :-(

Usually if my dd wakes like that it's an indication that she's OT. I'm owns wrong if your LO is ready for one nap and is in an UT/ OT cycle?

Can you post the last 2/3 days in EAS format?

Your LO is 13m old right?

He was def OT, I put him to bed at 6:15 and he pretty much slept through the night so not too bad in the end, but that nap yesterday was crazy!

hes gone down today fine again :-/

hes been on

WU 6:15-6:45
S 10am (1hr)
S 2pm (1.5hr)
BT 7pm

hes been doing brilliantly on this, although yesterday he had 2 NW and refused  that 10am nap until 1pm :-(
