Early waking - development or schedule tweak??
« on: April 12, 2014, 06:01:25 am »
Hi everyone

My LO is coming up to 7.5 months old. She is currently on two naps in the day, for the past week she has been waking between 5 and 530.

She did used to wake early but then the clocks went forward and she started waking at 615 for a couple of weeks which was perfect for us.

In the last week she has also mastered the skill of rolling!! From her back to belly. I am trying to work out if her we are due to development or if it's my schedule as I am conscious her a times have got longer with only having the 2 naps.

This is her schedule:

A 530 don't get out of cot until 630
S 915 ( usually 1 hour 20)
S 145 (usually anything between 30 mins and 1 hour)
Bath at 6 and sleeping by 645

I am conscious her A time first thing is long but she won't go for her nap any earlier and if she did I would struggle to get through the day on 2 naps.

I have also noticed that some days she will go for 2nd nap ok but others she will fight it and not nap until 230. Should her A time between morning nap and afternoon nap be longer than her A time from getting up to 1st nap??

Any comments as always greatly appreciated.

Just to note she is always happy when she wakes in the morning and from naps and doesn't appear grouchy.

Thanks

Hi, it could be that LO is OT as those naps are not really restorative as they are less than 1.5 hours. If the second nap is only 30 mins I would bring BT earlier and keep to a 12 hour day for a couple of days and see if you get a longer nights sleep.
My DS always wakes early if OT, or teething. Any teeth moving about?
Your average A time at this age is about 3 hours 15 mins so first A is a bit long but it's not unheard of for some LO's to do a long first A then it decrease as day goes on.

If she happy it may just be developmental and the rolling about is more interesting than sleeping.

Hi
Thank you for your reply. No teeth just yet, lots of dribbling and red cheeks on the odd days.

She did surprise me today and did two 1.5 hour naps , which I thought was a perfect day but at she seemed  wide awake at bedtime 645 and wanted to play!! Does that suggest she had too much sleep today?

Thanks!

Lol I love those surprise nap days..extra cuppa and biscuit time  ;)

Sounds a bit UT, if you get good naps like that try pushing BT 15 mins later. It's always the same when you think it's a perfect day they play up...little monkeys.
Hope you get a good night x

LOL that's exactly what I did!!

We had a brilliant night, she slept 7 until 645!
Fingers crossed we can do this again now I know she needs two good naps.
Brilliant thank you once again. This forum is fantastic!
