7month old NW for 2.5hrs wide awake
« on: April 18, 2014, 03:32:28 am »
Hi, my 7mo bub started teething 3 weeks ago and has been sleeping poorly during the day. 15-2hr naps turning into 30-45min naps for 3 weeks. At night waking 1-2 times every night. The first tooth has cut through, everyone told me that the 2nd should come through straight after but it still hasn't so I'm expecting his disturbed sleeps wont end until his 2nd cuts through.

4 days ago, he suddenly slept the full 2hr for both his naps and slept through the night. This was for one night. The next day his day time naps got better, getting what he use to 1.5-2hr ( I thought Thank God!) However, at the same time, he woke up 7hrs into his sleep and I tried to do pu/pd, but he calmed down very quickly with only less than 10 pu/pds. And after that, he was just wide awake. Putting his head down and looking up at me checking that i'm still there, smiling, rolling around for 2.5hrs. This has been happening for 3 days. I'm not sure whether it's got anything to do with him getting more sleep during the day, but it just so happened to occur at the same time. But I'm sure 3-4 hrs of sleep during the day is what he needs. Or is 3-4hrs plus 12hrs at night too much?
Where as, when he was sleeping poorly during the day, he would cry 1-2 times at night but only took 10-20mins of pu/pd and would go back to sleep. Now, he seems like he's not sleepy at all.

I'm thinking of doing wake to sleep tonight.

Anything I should try or look into?

Thanks

Could you post your daytime routine? Are you feeding him at night at all?

Hi,
At the moment
10am - eat
12:30 - sleep
2-2:30 - eat
4-4:30 - sleep
6-6:30 - eat
10pm - sleep

I started doing baby led weaning with solids from 6 months. so I usually give him something an hour after his milk. But depending on the day, I give him 1-2 meals.

Thanks

Do you feed him at night at all? If he is only eating 3 times a day (milk), he may be hungry... my LO was having 4 milk feeds during the day with 1-2 feeds at night, although she could sleep through some nights 11-12hrs without a feed, other nights she would have a feed. Also, you might need to start stretching his A times during the day so that its around 3hrs throughout the day, so that his last A (before bedtime) isn't as long as 3.5hrs. So something like this:

10am - wake and eat
1-2.30 - morning nap
2.30 - awake and feed
5.30-7pm - afternoon nap
7pm - awake and feed
8.30pm - cluster feed ( I used to offer one side here)
bedtime routine
10 - final feed and bedtime

I would limit daytime sleep to 1.5hrs per nap (3hrs in total) because 4hrs during the day with 12hrs at night may be too much for him!

Thanks Layla,

I don't feed him during the night, so just 4 times. 10, 2, 6, 10.

I will try and limit his sleep. Maybe it is too much.

He may be genuinely hungry though too...you could try feeding him and see if he settles back to sleep quicker. My girls all had night feeds at 7 months
