12 week old nw - awake for three hours motn
« on: April 18, 2014, 10:22:29 am »
So we just started st and stopped bf props, co sleeping and the swing pretty much cold turkey (except for apop some sleep in the swing when desperate). Ds was going great but each night he is awake 3hrs where I can't even apop feed to sleep. Nothing works! So is this normal dyt? Before st he would do regular ish 6hr stretches at bt in his swing before first nf when I'd just then cosleep. Once he did 9hr! Now we get 4hr max. First night of st was nw every 1.75hrs.... our easy is still sorting itself out and today was a bad day with only 1 nap but I wonder if it is a wonder week issue or something else? Any btdt?

Hi, could he just be getting used to learning how to fall asleep on his own? It may also have something to do with having a bad nap day... I imagine he would have been very overtired on just 1 nap. How long is he awake for during the day in between naps?

Hi layla! I have no idea. Maybe he could be still learning as it has been since we started st...I do recall a few wide awake at motn when co sleeping but i'd just bf and leave him to it and fell asleep.  I wonder if it is ot then...id be ok if nfs were shorter and he'd bf to sleep within an hour lol. Aiming for 1.5hr a times but we had been getting better naps and little ssh pat needed when asleep at 1.75hr mark. Still all over the place though so it is hard to say. Yesterday we were out and about all day. But nws were only 45min and 1hr but had a late bt last night after only 1 1.5hr car nap and then naps apoped on me all day.

Hi again... sorry this might be messy....
Ok sat night didn't have a huge nw just:
Bt 7.50pm
Nf 10.50pm nw for 1hr
Nf 3.30am for 45min
Wu sunday 6.45am
First a 2hr 5min
Nap 1: 8.50am 40min
Second a 1hr 45min
Nap 2: 11.15am 40min
Third a 1hr 30min
Nap 3: 1.25pm 3hr 30min (prob should have waken earlier but let ds sleep)
Bt 8.20pm (started wd at 6.20pm but ds wouldn't settle, I guess ut?) Had to apop bf to sleep so last a was 3hr 25min.... eek!
Nf 1.10am for 1hr
Nf 5.05am for 40min then wouldn't settle so it became an ew Monday.
Monday nap 1: 8.45am 35min (had tried to pd at 7.10am and 8.15am but dd ruined any attempt to get ds to sleep
First a was 3hr 40min unfortunately
Second a was 2hrs
Nap 2: 11.20am 30min
Third a was 1hr 50min
Nap 3: 1.40pm to 5.05pm (3hr 25min nap - didn't have the heart to wake him..)
Bt at 9.25pm, I tried to pd from 7.15pm but he wasn't cooperating!

Ds is hard to read and I am pd at 1.5hrs if I don't see obvious signs earlier. Think he will be lsn like dd but sheesh. Am trying to st and was going well for a few days then long weekend = dd home and I can't focus solely on ds and have had to ap a fair bit and the a times were too long!
It is frustrating that nf go for sooooo long and ds doesn't seem to easily bf back to sleep like I wish he would!

Hi hun, if you are BF back to sleep then it will be a prob and he will not be able to go to sleep with out it. Are you feeding at all the night wakings? Is he still in his own crib?

Yes, I do feed at all nw but he is really only doing 2 nw a night, 3 on occasion... I thought he needed to be fed that much at his age overnight?  It must be a prop but urghhhh. Is it a plan to practise independent sleep during naps and sssh pat to get him used to it a little? Cos it doesn't seem to be working as well at night. He is in his own cot, or swing if the cot isn't working. No more cosleeping...

Hi hun, I would stop the swing unless reflux is involved it's very confusing to lo's at this age. I would move all naps and bedtime to the crib unless illness occurs etc. You can't expect them to fall alseep one way and then learn to go back to sleep if they are moved to a prop (which the swing is) I think in this case? I think your easy is a little off.

Mondays issue was he slept way too long in the afternoon and was no way ready for bed by 7. I would try and stick to an EASY the best you can. I would have woken after 1.5hrs for that nap.

Good advice! I am also transitioning him to a zip up swaddle as he breaks free of my wrapping so he seems to ge getting used to that too, after a bit of initial protest. Ok no more swing... see how we go! He is a bit more rested after a couple of days with better naps so maybe nights will improve too. Fx!

Awesome job. Yes I think once he gets used to going to sleep and waking up in the same place he'll do better. Also make sure your wind down routine is the same  with obvious differences for bedtime like bottle or bath.

Slowly... ds is cn now during the day and is majorly ot most of the time. He has white noise bit wakes at the slightest household noise... let alone dd shrieking! I had to apop some swing naps just to get him some sleep this week. I think he needs to be better rested. His sleep in 24hrs is terribly low and I am exhaused. Actually I had 30min sleep since 3am and had both dd and ds up by 5.45am. Not by my choice!

It is 2.20am and I have had less than an hour sleep!!!! I think I am going to go craaaazy.
Ds napped terribly yesterday and had approx 2hrs over 3 naps. Plus it is cold for the first time in his life, 18degrees in his room not 24etc so maybe that is it too.

Well yes if he is uncomfrtable then he wont sleep. I'm assuming he's dressed appropriately for the weather though once you figured out it was cold so it could be something else. How is it going with the ST? You got rid of all the props etc. right? What EASY are you shooting for.
