How much formula?
« on: April 21, 2014, 15:36:00 pm »
My baby is 5weeks on Wednesday and wondered how much formula he should be having?

He was born 9lbs and now weighs 10lb 14oz

He was having 4oz but needed more so upped him to 5oz. Sometimes this is not enough so the next feed il make up 6oz but he might only take 3 of them. This causes a lot of milk wastage.

Should I stick with 5oz and then top up?

At night he will only take 2-3oz, during the day he takes more. I've only started e.a.s.y today so not got any routine to share with you all yet.

You may find that on a more regular routine his feeds are a bit more predicatable however it is often the case that they will take different amounts, that's the downside of formula feeding I'm afraid - a lot of waste.

I would offer 6oz bottles if he is draining some 5oz bottles. With a bottle feed there should be a bit left at the end of a feed so that you know they have stopped because they were full and not just because the bottle is empty.

HTH!
