Sucking noise with feeding?
« on: April 23, 2014, 18:30:10 pm »
SO, I asked before about bottles and Settled on playtex ventaire as she seemed to take it better. My LO is 4 weeks now. But now after 2 days on the bottle, she is again making the sucking sound with every suck. We have tried everything and seems to be making that noise and getting gassy and tiring out... Any ideas? Special nipples that are easier to use for babies? Or is the sucking sound normal? She is gaining weight and happy but is gassy and gets so tired and sometimes only takes 2.5 oz and sometimes 4.5oz. Help! Our pedi is no help!

What flow teat do you have her on? Has she been checked for tongue tie?

No tongue tie and on the slow flow nipple. We tried the medium and it just spilled all over, but only tried it once... She is only 4 weeks but does have a strong suck reflex...

Sounds like she needs a faster teat then. It can take a couple of feeds for them to get the hang of a new flow so give it a day at least on the next flow.

She's only a month old... Is that too early for a larger teat? Would be a medium flow...

You have to go by the baby and not what the packaging says, my two needed faster teats fairly early (I used vari-flow teats for DD as the slow was too slow but the medium a bit fats), some babies stay on slow flow until they come off bottles.

If she has a strong suck then the slow flow is probably too slow for her, mine used to get noisier when the teat was too slow and they used to make the teat collapse. Getting tired after only a couple of oz is also a sign she is having to work too hard to get the milk out.
