Stuck in OT mess
« on: May 14, 2014, 09:53:58 am »
So about a week ago DS had a NW at 3:30am  that we could.not resettle. We literally tried everything for hours and eventually at 6am we gave up because DH and I had to get ready for work, and since then things have been a bit of a mess (add in a few late BTs on the weekend) and I think now he's got some chronic OT.

I don't think he's STTN since, and now we are getting 5am wakings. Yesterday he woke at 5am and his CM said he wouldn't settle for a nap (OT?) So he only ended up sleeping 30mins for nap yesterday (she usually wakes them at 3pm, but that's a whole other issue...grrr) and then we got another 5am WU this morning.

His normal routine is:
WU 6:30/6:45
Nap 1-3
BT 7:45

Last night we did BT at 7 and it took him a bit to settle. Not sure where to go from here?  Try an earlier BT and hope he tacks on?  (though honestly not sure if we can get him down earlier). We just kicked the 5:45am WUs about 2 months ago after dealing with them for a solid year, so I really want to try to fix this somehow.

Sorry for the mammoth post!

Is he getting his molars? DD had a 4:30 WU a few days ago that we couldn't resettle and we've had EWs creeping back in and I think molars are the cause. She was also taking shorter naps than usual. This morning she did a 20 min CN in the am to catch-up (not usually an option at daycare but I'm home sick today so I kept her with me) and now she's having a nice long nap. Is a morning CN an option for you?

I don't think molars are on the way yet, just think he's reallllly OT.  A CN isn't really an option because he's at daycare all day.  I asked my CM to let him nap as long as he needs today and he seemed better when DH picked him up, so we stuck with normal BT.  Hoping for a decent WU tomorrow!!

Hi Lindsay, I wonder if, after some catch up, he needs some trimmed off that lovely nap ( or maybe I am just jealous!) :) An 11 hour night is pretty good and if he typically tacks on, I wonder if needs less day sleep. I don't disagree with the built up OT, just wondering about CAUSE of the chaos...Does he have a gro-clock or the like?

Totally  off topic here but he is Just. So. Precious! His hat and wild hair are so very cute. Now, catch up on sleep Bennett!

Oh praise Jesus ladies...he slept until 6:45am this morning :)

Hi Lindsay, I wonder if, after some catch up, he needs some trimmed off that lovely nap ( or maybe I am just jealous!)
His routine I posted is actually fairly normal for him, though this is somewhat recent.  We had 5:45am EWs for the better part of a year, but he's been rolling with this routine nicely :)  At daycare during the week his max nap is about 2hrs, but usually somewhere between 1.5 - 2hrs and his BT can fluctuate a bit...I normally put him down at 7:45pm but he probably rolls around and doesn't fall asleep until 8pm or so.

Hopefully we can get back on track now!

Thanks!!  We can't go anywhere without anyone commenting on his wild hair! Wow, that pic is almost a year old!! I seriously need to update.  I'm sad because I loved that hat and it doesn't fit this year :(
