Dream Feed
« on: May 19, 2014, 05:24:35 am »
How much BM should I pump for the DF? My is LO 3 mo old. My husband does the DF and depending on how much I pumped, baby will gulp down all of it. Last night I had a BM bottle filled to the brim, and baby nearly drank the whole thing (5oz+). Does that mean I have to pump 5oz everyday? Isn't that a lot?

So I need bigger bottles! My BM bottles only hold 5oz so I assumed I was giving him a lot. Thank You!

The general rule is to offer an ounce more if he is draining bottles and another ounce if he still drains that and so on.

What teat are you using? Sometimes if the teats are too fast an EBF LO will just drink and drink until it is gone before he has the chance to realise he is full.

You may also want to look at how big a feed he takes at BT if he seems to be exceptionally hungry at DF time.

Mine is also taking 5-6oz for DF and is small 3mo little one (5140g). We have started DF last week and he is taking that amount.

I don't think he eats tons at his last feeding around 7pm. I have to work at keeping him awake. Therefore, his DF seems to be substantial. I have been using bottles that were labeled as meant for BM, so I didn't think the nipples would flow too fast.
I will get bigger bottles.
Thanks everyone! This was helpful. (and good to hear other babies drink that much too)

The same with us btw. Very sleepy after bath do probably not taking a full feed.
We also use bottle similar to breast (Avent Natural) and we still have nipple 0-1m when DS is 3months:).
