sudden wakings midday--- again
« on: May 20, 2014, 20:25:36 pm »
hello everyone:)

I seem to be experiencing the afternoon mid nap wake up again now that my son is just over 8 months. When he was around 5 months i had the same issue where he would wake 35-45min into his afternoon nap. He does wake crying..
Im hoping more experiences mammas could take a look at my easy and see if they can see anything. Generally, he is up 3.20min across the board

w-710am
s-1030-12
w-12-320
s-320-430----seems to be waking here. He just started doing this a few days ago.
w-430-745pm

I wonder if this is the very, very beginning of 2-1 transition. Many 8 month olds will do a long nap and a shorter one and I wonder if that is the case here. How are you resettling when he stirs/wakes?

I also suspect teeth, any sign of them riffling around in there?

he recently had another 2 teeth come in which haven't seemed to bother him much. When he wakes ill just pick him up until he calms down and hold him for a little. He does eventually settle.

Is he falling asleep in your arms? If so, it could have become a prop and some shh/pat or PUPD may be in order for him to roll over and go back to sleep instead of needing you mid-nap.

I agree with nevinsmama and would start pushing the first A time by 10 mins or so and seeing if you can get one long and one short nap - that worked really well for my little one at 8 months.

i dont think its become a prop. Its like he wakes up and starts screaming bloody murder! I just pick him up until he calms down but not asleep. Can anyone suggest what a 9 month old schedule should look like for him?

Have a look here.

WHen DD was this age we had 2 naps around an hour. She never was a "long napper" until she hit 1 nap. And not too much then! I think she did about 3 hour 40 A.

chronological EASY samples, 7-9 months

My 9 month old does naps of 1hr20 in the morning + 30/40 mins in the afternoon - any longer than that and he isn't tired enough to sleep well at night.

He does 3hr45/4hr A times but never sleeps more than 10.5 hours at night (never has! :) )

lt does look like your son is adjusting his sleep towards the 2:1 transition and 1 long + 1 short nap would probably suit him. I realise though that you say he is waking screaming at the moment - is that still happening?

he seems to have gone back to his normal 1.5hr afternoon nap again. No he does not wake screaming anymore.
