PLEASE help 15 Month old living on bananas !!!
« on: May 06, 2014, 17:56:24 pm »
Hello to all

I EBF DS until he was 13 months, then i started taking out one feed at at time and he was off the breast by 14 month but did not replace that with anything, he does not like formula or whole milk, or 1%, nothing, aside from that he ate chicken and beef pretty well before now he want nothing he has been eating by himself since he was 11 moths old so is not an option for me to feed him, this means no soups or cream or cereal that he cant eat with his hand, he like banana and plantain, rice and bread, i put some mozzarella cheese, or cream cheese, or butter in his bread and he will eat it but no veggies, he use to LOVE every fruit there was now is only banana and grapes but is not much of variety and im scared he does not get vitamins, iron or calcium he needs. He has not gained any weight since his 1st Bday,

any thoughts?

PD: He is a touchy / textbook he is not walking yet but trying to practice holding to furniture donīt know if its a factor

I would encourage him to use a spoon himself to see if you get get food into him that way, casseroles, fruit purées, porridge, fruit yogurts. You could try smoothies, mini muffins with fruit end veg in, cut up omelettes, eggs and solders have you tried toasted sandwiches with veges inside with cheese.

It's a fussy age. Keep offering and trying new things. Teeth may also be a factor  ((Hugs))

I give him a spoon and a fork, he likes to pinch with the fork but usually takes it out and just to pinch the same piece over and over, i will try with muffins and the veggies on sandwich, iīm just afraid to give him so much bread everyday, he only asks for bananas and bread all day

Try frittatas in muffin tins. Veges and egg really ;)
Chickpeas are good too, dips? or you can offer sausages as finger food.

Some babies refuse to eat when they are teething or have reflux discomfort.
Is he otherwise well in himself?

I donīt think he is teething now but he has been with a little upset stomach, he already has 12 of his teeth and never had an issue except the first one that was a pain, He is skinny as it is iīm afraid of him loosing weight. I tried to give him pediasure before bed to complement what he did not eat during the day but he doesnīt like it not vanila or chocolate flavor, iīm really worried

Maybe he is just off his food because of the stomach upset.
When he is better I would limit the bread and bananas and offer other foods.
You could also try mixing an accepted food like banana with a new food like egg. Mashed banana omelette is actually really yummy!
I'd also try putting things in the bread like pp suggested.

I'd offer something different for snack, especially if you don't know that he likes it.

My ds was the same, ate bananas for ages. Try slicing up some avocado with his banana or mashing them together. They have the same texture and go well together. Plus avocado is a pretty mild flavor and is packed with nutrients, as are bananas. Don't worry, my son would only eat bananas for a few months and he grew perfectly, and is very intelligent. Bananas are very healthy!
