Green beans = gas?
« on: June 18, 2014, 22:08:12 pm »
Anybody think green beans cause gas? My 7 month old is in serious discomfort at night and I'm trying to pin point what might be causing it. It might be either green beans or summer squash. I doubt summer squash.

Could be either - looks like you get to do your first food elimination trial. :)

Are you making the food yourself or is it store-bought? I'm wondering about any other additives.

Any other solids then? If those are the only two, I'd back off both for a bit till the tummy recovers, then try a bit of one and see if it recurs. It might also be a matter of a digestive system needing a bit more time to mature, too.

One other thing to try is infant probiotics; if the gut flora has been disrupted, then pretty much everything is going to be harder to digest than it otherwise would be. Note: infant probiotics are different from adult probiotics (which I didn't know when I gave my DD#2 some of my adult ones); not the end of the world, but there is a different set of gut bacteria in there as babies.

I have probiotics for him - I just usually forget to give him them. I will start again.
last night was fantastic! One wake up at 3am. I only gave him rice cereal last night. I'm wondering if I should do another day of no solids (or a bit of rice cereal) before truing any solids.
Thanks!!

We actually found most cereals to be more problematic than actual foods; we cycled thru several different grains before we worked out what worked for Josie (and it wasn't rice, although that did OK for Natalie). If it's working for him, though, that's good. Baby tummies often have a hard time digesting grains (as do adult tummies, as it turns out :)).
