Hi.... I have come back to this forum as I am scratching my head a little and could just do with a little advice...

My son has never slept brilliantly. He sleeps through at night but that took a while, and we struggled with all nap transitions. He is now 22.5mo. He does have molars coming through, although I don;t think that they are disturbing sleep at the moment. He is a spirited baby who likes routine.

Recently he has started to play up at naps. Unfortunate as it was a regression but not the end of the world as we could still get him down. His naps have been getting shorter, and no amount of PUPD will solve this - however if he went to bed slightly earlier it would solve any OT. However, his daddy has started working away - now I am aware that this might be an issue. He has also started to test boundaries and I am aware that his imagination is coming along as her goes on about certain things that make no sense. I also think maybe he is trying to drop the nap - however there is so much going on that things have just got confusing. Now he has started to kick up a fuss at BT too - that IS unusual. 45 mins of crying tonight - he does NOT want to go to be (all the cues are there). He is probably OT as he refuses to nap in the day (just 30 ins today) and I am on my own with no-one I can turn to for help, so I can feel myself unravelling.
WU - between 5.30 and 7 (usually around 6.30)
Nap - around 12.30/1pm for anywhere between 30 mins to 1.5hrs
BT - 6.45 (although 6.30 if tired, and we read a story or two so he actually goes down around 6.45-7)

Does anyone have any thoughts? I simply CANNOT get him to nap without propping - should I give it up? How do I deal with BT?

Please, any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks x

Hugs that sounds tough. :-*
Is he sttn?

Does giving pain meds before a nap make a difference to how long he sleeps? My 21 mth old is teething canines and molars and when he's sore his nap is short if I don't medicate beforehand yk?

Your routine looks ok other than that short nap :-\ what happens when he wakes? Are you apoping to sleep or just helping to sleep for the nap ATM?

He's to old for up/pd at this age it's wi/wo. Do you know how this works?

Hi, thanks for replying.

He is sttn yes. But his wu can be somewhat early! He is just so inflexible with his sleep :/ I am frightened to take him anywhere! lol! Pain meds make no difference to nap times. He slept 2 hours today (propped in car as we were on our way home from nursery - sometimes I cant avoid it) and is like a different boy, so its clear he still needs a nap.

I dont know what wi/wo is... I will look it up! Just about to start BT routine - so hope this goes better tonight!!! :/

Here you go Walk In/Walk Out vs. The Gradual Withdrawal Method (HOW TO CHOOSE)
Tbh I think it's a bit of a rough time for them between 18-24 mths ::) I know mine is up and down with sleep, teeth, development and an attitude to boot ;)

His routine looks ok though, I think he is getting enough sleep 10.5 hrs at night is a full nights sleep and anything over 11 is pretty common. With a 7 bt then often you expect a 6 WU with some kids. That along with a 1.5 hr nap is 12.5 hrs and often a common number during regression or developmental periods (a pain though I know!)

So, I'd keep your routine for now, but maybe try to wean yourself as a prop if he is well? X
